Rate Control versus Rhythm Control for Atrial Fibrillation after Cardiac Surgery
A. Marc Gillinov,Emilia Bagiella,Alan J. Moskowitz,Jesse Raiten,Mark A. Groh,Michael E. Bowdish,Gorav Ailawadi,Katherine A. Kirkwood,Louis P. Perrault,Michael K. Parides,Robert L. Smith,John A. Kern,Gladys Dussault,Amy E. Hackmann,Neal Jeffries,Marissa A. Miller,Wendy C. Taddei-Peters,Eric A. Rose,Richard D. Weisel,Deborah L. Williams,Ralph F. Mangusan,Michael Argenziano,Ellen Moquete,Karen O'Sullivan,Michel Pellerin,Kinjal J. Shah,James S. Gammie,Mary Lou Mayer,Pierre Voisine,Annetine C. Gelijns,Patrick T. O'Gara,Michael J. Mack +31 more
TL;DR: Strategies for rate control and rhythm control to treat postoperative atrial fibrillation were associated with equal numbers of days of hospitalization, similar complication rates, and similarly low rates of persistent atrialfibrillation 60 days after onset.
Journal ArticleDOI
Readmissions After Cardiac Surgery: Experience of the National Institutes of Health/Canadian Institutes of Health Research Cardiothoracic Surgical Trials Network
Alexander Iribarne,Helena Chang,John H. Alexander,A. Marc Gillinov,Ellen Moquete,John D. Puskas,Emilia Bagiella,Michael A. Acker,Mary Lou Mayer,T. Bruce Ferguson,Sandra G. Burks,Louis P. Perrault,Stacey Welsh,Karen C. Johnston,Mandy Murphy,Joseph J. DeRose,Alexis A. Neill,Edlira Dobrev,Kim T. Baio,Wendy C. Taddei-Peters,Alan J. Moskowitz,Patrick T. O'Gara +21 more
TL;DR: Nearly 1 of 5 patients who undergo cardiac operations require readmission, an outcome with significant health and economic implications, and management practices to avert in-hospital infections, reduce postoperative arrhythmias, and avoid volume overload offer important targets for quality improvement.
Journal ArticleDOI
Diabetes and the Association of Postoperative Hyperglycemia With Clinical and Economic Outcomes in Cardiac Surgery.
Giampaolo Greco,Bart S. Ferket,David A. D'Alessandro,Wei Shi,Keith A. Horvath,Alexander Rosen,Stacey Welsh,Emilia Bagiella,Alexis E. Neill,Deborah L. Williams,Ann Greenberg,Jeffrey N. Browndyke,A. Marc Gillinov,Mary Lou Mayer,Jessica Keim-Malpass,Lopa Gupta,Samuel F. Hohmann,Annetine C. Gelijns,Patrick T. O'Gara,Alan J. Moskowitz +19 more
TL;DR: Glucose levels <180 mg/dL are associated with better outcomes in most patients, but worse outcomes in patients with diabetes with a history of prior insulin use, which supports further investigation of a stratified approach to the management of patients with stress-induced postoperative hyperglycemia based on prior diabetes status.
Journal Article
Identification of the mongolism chromosome by dna replication analysis.
Journal ArticleDOI
Sex-Based Differences in Outcomes After Mitral Valve Surgery for Severe Ischemic Mitral Regurgitation: From the Cardiothoracic Surgical Trials Network.
Gennaro Giustino,Jessica Overbey,Doris A. Taylor,Gorav Ailawadi,Katherine A. Kirkwood,Joseph J. DeRose,Marc Gillinov,François Dagenais,Mary Lou Mayer,Alan J. Moskowitz,Emilia Bagiella,Marissa A. Miller,Paul A. Grayburn,Peter K. Smith,Annetine C. Gelijns,Patrick T. O'Gara,Michael A. Acker,Anuradha Lala,Judy Hung +18 more
TL;DR: Women with SIMR displayed different echocardiographic features and experienced higher mortality and worse QOL after MV surgery than men, and there were no significant differences in the degree of reverse LV remodeling between sexes.
