Provenance versus weathering control on the composition of tropical river mud (southern Africa)
Eduardo Garzanti,Marta Padoan,Massimo Setti,Alberto López-Galindo,Igor M. Villa,Igor M. Villa +5 more
TL;DR: In this paper, the authors present an integrated mineralogical-geochemical database on fine-grained sediments transported by all major rivers of southern Africa, including the Zambezi, Okavango, Limpopo, Olifants, Orange and Kunene.
Journal ArticleDOI
Weathering geochemistry and Sr‐Nd fingerprints of equatorial upper Nile and Congo muds
Eduardo Garzanti,Marta Padoan,Massimo Setti,Yani Najman,Luigi Peruta,Igor M. Villa,Igor M. Villa +6 more
TL;DR: In this article, an original, complete and integrated mineralogical-geochemical database on silt-sized sediments derived from different parent rocks along the East African Rift from 5°S in Tanzania to 5°N in Sudan is presented and used to assess the incidence of diverse factors controlling sediment composition (source-rock lithology, geomorphology, hydraulic sorting, grain size, recycling), with particular emphasis on chemical weathering.
Journal ArticleDOI
Thermal muds: Perspectives of innovations
TL;DR: In this article, the authors proposed a network of specialized laboratories for the certification after standard criteria of the quality and suitability of peloid muds, and to appoint an European Master for assisting the physicians in selecting the peloids in view of treatments focused on different pathologies.
Journal ArticleDOI
Kaolinite in pharmaceutics and biomedicine.
Mahmoud E. Awad,Mahmoud E. Awad,Mahmoud E. Awad,Alberto López-Galindo,Massimo Setti,Mahmoud M. El-Rahmany,César Viseras Iborra,César Viseras Iborra +7 more
TL;DR: Kaolinite can be considered as a promising natural geomaterial for designing new derivatives that can contribute in the trials of discovering new therapeutic systems and treatment pathways of global challenge diseases such as cancer, viruses, antibiotic resistant bacteria, alzheimer, chronic skeletomuscular and geriatric diseases.
Journal ArticleDOI
Formulation of muds for pelotherapy: effects of ''maturation'' by different mineral waters
Fernando Veniale,Elisabetta Barberis,G Carcangiu,Noris Morandi,Massimo Setti,M. Tamanini,Daniel Tessier +6 more
TL;DR: In this paper, the influence of high-pH value of the virgin clay on the pH of the used mineral waters is shown to influence the temperature reached by the peloid muds after 20 min of application (calculated after an innovative mathematical model).
