Journal ArticleDOI

Solid-state harmonics beyond the atomic limit

TL;DR: It is found that the high harmonic generation spectra from the rare-gas solids exhibit multiple plateaus extending well beyond the atomic limit of the corresponding gas-phase harmonics measured under similar conditions, suggesting the importance of electron–hole recollision in these solids.
Journal ArticleDOI

Amplitude and phase control of attosecond light pulses

TL;DR: The generation, compression, and delivery on target of ultrashort extreme-ultraviolet light pulses using external amplitude and phase control is reported, demonstrating a practical method for synthesizing and controlling attosecond waveforms.
Journal ArticleDOI

Macroscopic aspects of attosecond pulse generation

TL;DR: In this article, a complete understanding of the way in which attosecond pulses arrive at a target where they can be characterized and used in an experiment is discussed, and a number of results from calculations of the attoscond pulse generation obtained by simultaneous solution of the time-dependent Schrodinger equation and the Maxwell wave equation are discussed.
Journal ArticleDOI

High-harmonic generation from Bloch electrons in solids

TL;DR: In this article, the authors study the generation of high-harmonic radiation by Bloch electrons in a model transparent solid driven by a strong midinfrared laser field and find that the resulting harmonic spectrum exhibits a primary plateau due to coupling of the valence band to the first conduction band, with a cutoff energy that scales linearly with field strength and laser wavelength.
Journal ArticleDOI

Temporal Coherence of Ultrashort High-Order Harmonic Pulses

TL;DR: In this article, the temporal coherence of high-order harmonics (up to the 15th order) produced by focusing 100 fs laser pulses into an argon gas jet was studied.
