The Appropriate Use of Opioids in the Treatment of Refractory Restless Legs Syndrome.
Michael H. Silber,Philip M. Becker,Mark J. Buchfuhrer,Christopher J. Earley,William G. Ondo,Arthur S. Walters,John W. Winkelman,Scientific +7 more
TL;DR: Opioid use in selected patients with refractory RLS may be life‐transforming with favorable risk‐benefit ratio, and the basic science and clinical evidence in support of their use are summarized.
Journal ArticleDOI
Restless Legs Syndrome
TL;DR: A practical approach to management involves a stepwise plan, commencing with intermittent therapy with less potent agents for mild cases and progressing to medications with greater potency but a higher potential for side effects.
Journal ArticleDOI
Lesional REM sleep behavior disorder localizes to the dorsomedial pons.
Erik K. St. Louis,Stuart J. McCarter,Bradley F. Boeve,Michael H. Silber,Kejal Kantarci,Eduardo E. Benarroch,Alora Rando,Maja Tippmann-Peikert,Eric J. Olson,Michelle L. Mauermann +9 more
TL;DR: A case of lesional RBD due to vasculitis is reported, and in vivo human studies of discrete dorsomedial pontine lesions causing RBD in isolation have been limited.
Journal ArticleDOI
The Management of Restless Legs Syndrome: An Updated Algorithm.
Michael H. Silber,Mark J. Buchfuhrer,Christopher J. Earley,Brian B. Koo,Mauro Manconi,John W. Winkelman,Phillip M. Becker,J. Andrew Berkowski,Stefan Clemens,James R. Connor,Sergi Ferré,Jennifer G. Hensley,Byron C. Jones,Elias Karroum,Brian B. Koo,William G. Ondo,Kathy Richards,Denise Sharon,Lynn Marie Trotti,George R. Uhl,Arthur S. Walters +20 more
TL;DR: In this paper, a literature search was performed using PubMed identifying all articles on Restless legs syndrome from 2012 to 2020, and the management of RLS was considered under the following headings: General Considerations, Intermittent RLS, Chronic Persistent RLS; Refractory RLS and Special Circumstances; and Alternative, Investigative, and Potential Future Therapies.
Journal ArticleDOI
Diagnosing narcolepsy: validity and reliability of new diagnostic criteria
TL;DR: New research diagnostic criteria for narcolepsy possess high interrater reliability and appear valid descriptors of the syndrome, based on HLA typing, which may be useful in providing consistent criteria to compare different research studies.
