Comparison of the pine wood nematode, Bursaphelenchus xylophilus from pine and balsam fir

TL;DR: The pine wood nematode, Bursaphelenchus xylophilus, found on balsam fir in Minnesota and Wisconsin but was apparently not the primary cause of tree mortality, reproduced equally well on cultures of Botrytis cinera, but the balam fir isolate reproduced minimally on culture of Ceratocystis ips.
Journal ArticleDOI

A new species of Ophiostoma from Protea infructescences in South Africa

TL;DR: The discovery of O. capense has called in question the taxonomic placement of C. proteae, and further studies on these taxonomically and mycogeographically interesting fungi are required.
Journal ArticleDOI

Fungal species and their boundaries matter – Definitions, mechanisms and practical implications

TL;DR: The nature of fungal species is explored and how this impacts the understanding of their genetics and evolution is considered, to enhance the ability to identify them and to develop realistic strategies to manage and manipulate their growth and distribution.
Journal ArticleDOI

PCR-based identification and phylogeny of species of Ceratocystis sensu stricto

TL;DR: A rapid and reliable PCR-based RFLP identification method is developed and phylogenetic relationships among the betterknown species of Ceratocystis are considered to form a sound foundation for further taxonomic studies of the group.
