Journal ArticleDOI

Structure-based conformational preferences of amino acids

TL;DR: A protein design procedure that optimizes whole sequences for a given target conformation based on the knowledge of the template backbone and on a semiempirical potential energy function indicates that amino acid conformational preferences are a natural consequence of the potential energy used.
Journal ArticleDOI

Periodicity of deoxyribonuclease I digestion of chromatin

TL;DR: The average lengths obtained are muliples of about 10.4 bases, significantly different from the value of 10 previously reported, which indicates periodicity in fragment lengths is closely related to the periodicity of the DNA double helix in chromatin.
Journal ArticleDOI

Consistent force field for calculation of vibrational spectra and conformations of some amides and lactam rings

TL;DR: In this article, the parameters of the energy functions related to the amide group and its vicinity were optimized by least squares to give a best fit to the vibrational spectra and conformations of the linear amides, including many deuterated analogues.
Journal ArticleDOI

The birth of computational structural biology.

TL;DR: I arrived in Israel in October, 1967 and set to work programming the consistent force field under the supervision of Shneior Lifson and his Ph.D. student Arieh Warshel, and had a program called CFF that allowed us to calculate the energy, forces, and curvature of any molecular system.
