Optimal Estimation of the Average Areal Rainfall Over a Basin and Optimal Selection of Rain-Gauge Locations

TL;DR: In this article, a linear minimum variance unbiased estimation procedure for the estimation of spatially distributed random variables (called "kriging" by geostatisticians) is used to estimate the average areal rainfall over a catchment area from measurements in a few rain-gauges.
Journal ArticleDOI

Information Inequality for Estimation of Transfer Functions: main results

TL;DR: A canonical lower bound for the autocovariance function of any unbiased transfer-function estimator is derived as a generalization of the Cramer-Rao bound, which is one of the cornerstones for experiment design formulations that do not depend on the choice of coordinates.
Proceedings ArticleDOI

Parametrization invariant covariance quantification in identification of transfer functions for linear systems

TL;DR: The role of input and model class selection for the auto-covariance of the estimated transfer function is explained without reference to any particular parametrization and the Fisher information metric is shown to provide an asymptotically tight lower bound for the positive kernel representing the covariance at the system which generated the input-output data.
