Community metabolism and air-sea C02 fluxes in a coral reef ecosystem (Moorea, French Polynesia)
TL;DR: In this article, community metabolism (primary production, respiration and calcification) and air-sea CO2 fluxes of the Tiahura barrier reef were investigated in November and December 1991.
Journal ArticleDOI
Carbon fluxes in coral reefs. I. Lagrangian measurement of community metabolism and resulting air-sea CO2 disequilibrium
TL;DR: In this paper, the Lagrangian flow resplrometry technique was used to estimate related air-sea CO, disequilibrium for community metabolism on 2 reef flats at Sloorea (French l'olynesia) during austral winter and Yonge Reef (Great Barrier Reef) during Austral summer.
Journal ArticleDOI
Carbon fluxes in coral reefs. II. Eulerian study of inorganic carbon dynamics and measurement of air-sea CO2 exchanges
Michel Frankignoulle,Jean-Pierre Gattuso,Biondo R,Isabelle Bourge,Copin-Montégut G,Michel Pichon +5 more
TL;DR: It is shown that both sites were net sources of CO2 to the atmosphere as a result of the effect of calcification on the dynamics of the inorganic carbon system, and showed that the calc~fication rate was proportional to the net organic production during the day and to the respiration rate at night.
Journal ArticleDOI
Use of habitats as surrogates of biodiversity for efficient coral reef conservation planning in Pacific Ocean Islands
Mayeul Dalleau,Serge Andréfouët,Serge Andréfouët,Colette C. C. Wabnitz,Claude Payri,Laurent Wantiez,Michel Pichon,Kim Friedman,Kim Friedman,Laurent Vigliola,Laurent Vigliola,Francesca Benzoni +11 more
TL;DR: A habitat-mapping methodology for designation of MPAs for Pacific Ocean islands that are characterized by habitat zonations similar to Wallis Island could appreciably facilitate and improve current approaches to coral reef conservation and enhance MPA implementation.
Journal ArticleDOI
Primary production, calcification, and air-sea CO2 fluxes of a macroalgal-dominated coral reef community (Moorea, French Polynesia)
TL;DR: Investigation of community metabolism and air‐sea carbon dioxide fluxes on a fringing reef at Moorea demonstrated that changes in small‐scale hydrodynamics can lead to misleading conclusions.
