Journal ArticleDOI
Feasibility of genetic and immunological prediction of Type I diabetes in a population-based birth cohort
A. Kupila,P. Muona,Tuula Simell,P. Arvilommi,H. Savolainen,Anu-Maaria Hämäläinen,Sari Korhonen,T. Kimpimäki,Minna Sjöroos,Jorma Ilonen,Mikael Knip,Olli Simell +11 more
TL;DR: In this paper, the feasibility and acceptance of neonatal genetic screening for Type I (insulin-dependent) diabetes mellitus susceptibility and adherence of the at-risk children to frequent autoantibody follow-up were studied.
Journal Article
Triple-label hybridization assay for type-1 diabetes-related HLA alleles.
TL;DR: This triple-label hybridization assay proved to be suitable even for detection of a large number of samples, and cross-reactions were not found among samples containing 14 common DQB1 alleles.
Journal ArticleDOI
Population-based genetic screening for the estimation of Type 1 diabetes mellitus risk in Finland: selective genotyping of markers in the HLA-DQB1, HLA-DQA1 and HLA-DRB1 loci.
S Nejentsev,Minna Sjöroos,T Soukka,Mikael Knip,Mikael Knip,Olli Simell,Timo Lövgren,Jorma Ilonen +7 more
TL;DR: Aims to improve and specificity of the diabetes risk assessment of the population‐based genetic screening used in the Finnish Diabetes Prediction and Prevention (DIPP) trial.
Journal ArticleDOI
Rapid HLA-DQB1 Genotyping for Four Alleles in the Assessment of Risk for IDDM in the Finnish Population
Jorma Ilonen,Helena Reijonen,Elja Herva,Minna Sjöroos,A Iitiä,Timo Lövgren,Riitta Veijola,Mikael Knip,Hans K. Åkerblom +8 more
TL;DR: The near-automatic typing procedure developed is attractive for large-scale screening projects, such as diabetes prevention and intervention trials, and in siblings of child with IDDM.
Journal ArticleDOI
Estimation of genetic risk for type 1 diabetes.
Jorma Ilonen,Minna Sjöroos,Mikael Knip,Riitta Veijola,Olli Simell,Hans K. Åkerblom,Peri Paschou,Evangelos Bozas,Beatrice Havarani,Ariadne Malamitsi-Puchner,Joanna Thymelli,Andriani Vazeou,Christos S. Bartsocas +12 more
TL;DR: PCR based typing methods that utilize blood spot samples, microtiter plate format and lanthanide labeled oligonucleotide probes to define HLA-DQ and -DR alleles relevant for T1DM risk are developed.
