In general, Micropower Impulse Radar (MIR) depends on Ultra-Wideband (UWB) transmission systems. UWB technology can supply innovative new systems and products that have an obvious value for radar and communications uses. Important applications include bridge-deck inspection systems, ground penetrating radar, mine detection, and precise distance resolution for such things as liquid level measurement. Most of these UWB inspection and measurement methods have some unique qualities, which need to be pursued. Therefore, in considering changes to Part 15 the FCC needs to take into account the unique features of UWB technology. MIR is applicable to two general types of UWB systems: radar systems and communications systems. Currently LLNL and its licensees are focusing on radar or radar type systems. LLNL is evaluating MIR for specialized communication systems. MIR is a relatively low power technology. Therefore, MIR systems seem to have a low potential for causing harmful interference to other users of the spectrum since the transmitted signal is spread over a wide bandwidth, which results in a relatively low spectral power density.

Design of high gain/directional ultra‐wideband antenna for radar imaging systems

In this paper, a tetraband microstrip patch antenna with defective ground structure (DGS) is proposed. DGS structure is used for improving the performance of microstrip patch antenna. The proposed structure shows the multi-frequency band operation and it covers S and C-band frequencies that are allocated by FCC for TV transmission and reception with open satellite communication. This antenna is designed on FR-4 substrate with dielectric constant 4.5 and thickness 1.8 mm and its size is 40 X 35 X 1.87 mm3. The return loss, gain and directivity of proposed structure is analyzed using commercial computer simulation technology microwave studio (CST MWS). The simulated results show the close agreement with proposed theory. The main application of proposed antenna is to make compatible with open satellite communication for free (not scrambled no subscription required) satellite services.

A low rcs compact circularly polarized dual band slot antenna loaded with SRR and CSRR for satellite applications

A Novel and compact UWB-MIMO antenna is proposed and analyzed. The two circular monopole antennas embedded on a FR4 substrate with dielectric constant 4.4 and substrate height of 0.8 mm. The proposed antenna with the size of 64×40 mm2, perform good diversity performance for entire ultra wideband. Antenna results are carried out on Computer simulation tool (CST) and results are analyzed in terms of return loss, isolation, antenna gain, radiation pattern and correlation coefficient. A comparative study of results has been taken into account for proposed antenna with and without ground stubs. The novel ground stubs inserted in the ground plane reduce the mutual coupling and enhance isolation from −10 dB to −18 dB for almost whole ultra wideband except the frequency range of 6.7 GHz to 9.35 GHz. A good impedance bandwidth, diversity performance makes the proposed designed antenna suitable for high-speed wireless communication system.

UWB-MIMO diversity antenna for next generation wireless applications

Antenna is one of the important elements in the RF system for receiving or transmitting the radio wave signals from and into the air as a medium. The microstrip patch antenna is the most preferred for low cost and compact design. In this paper, a microstrip patch antenna mounted over a high impedance electromagnetic bandgap (EBG) substrate using square and circular shaped unit cells is proposed. A wide operating bandwidth of a microstrip patch antenna can be obtained by arranging EBG patches in two rows. The proposed antenna design is simulated on electromagnetic (EM) simulation software using FR-4 substrate with dielectric constant of 4.54 and thickness of 1.60mm. This antenna has a compact structure with a total size of 60x60mm square. The bandwidth of microstrip patch antenna is enhanced by replacing a conducting ground plane by a high impedance EBG layer. It is also found that the circular shaped EBG cells exhibits higher bandwidth than that of the square shaped EBG cells having same area. A novel design of this microstrip patch antenna is integrated with square and circular unit cells which exhibits significantly wider bandwidth than the conventional one. The bandwidth of microstrip patch antenna using square shaped unit cells is found to be 11.40% and that of circular shaped unit cells is 16.65% which is much higher than that of conventional antenna without EBG substrate whose bandwidth is calculated to be 4.28%. The simulated results show the good agreement with the proposed scheme.
