Journal ArticleDOI
Efficacy of Olyset Duo, a bednet containing pyriproxyfen and permethrin, versus a permethrin-only net against clinical malaria in an area with highly pyrethroid-resistant vectors in rural Burkina Faso: a cluster-randomised controlled trial.
Alfred B. Tiono,Alphonse Ouedraogo,Daouda Ouattara,Edith C. Bougouma,Sam A. Coulibaly,Amidou Diarra,Brian Faragher,Moussa W. Guelbeogo,Nelson Grisales,Issa Ouedraogo,Zininwindé Amidou Ouédraogo,Margaret Pinder,Souleymane Sanon,Thomas J. Smith,Thomas J. Smith,Fiona Vanobberghen,Fiona Vanobberghen,N’Fale Sagnon,Hilary Ranson,Steve W. Lindsay +19 more
TL;DR: PPF-treated LLins provide greater protection against clinical malaria than do standard LLINs and could be used as an alternative to standard LLIns in areas with intense transmission of Plasmodium falciparum malaria and highly pyrethroid-resistant vectors.
Book ChapterDOI
Advances and Perspectives in the Study of the Malaria Mosquito Anopheles funestus
TL;DR: Largely neglected with regard to its counterpart Anopheles gambiae, An.
Journal ArticleDOI
Higher gametocyte production and mosquito infectivity in chronic compared to incident Plasmodium falciparum infections.
Aissata Barry,John S. Bradley,Will Stone,Moussa W. Guelbeogo,Kjerstin Lanke,Alphonse Ouedraogo,Issiaka Soulama,Issa Nebie,Samuel Sindié Sermé,Lynn Grignard,Catriona Patterson,Lindsey Wu,Jessica Briggs,Owen Janson,Shehu S. Awandu,Mireille Ouedraogo,Casimire W. Tarama,Désiré Kargougou,Soumanaba Zongo,Sodiomon B. Sirima,Matthias Marti,Chris Drakeley,Alfred B. Tiono,Teun Bousema +23 more
TL;DR: In this article, the authors assess parasite kinetics and infectivity to mosquitoes among children (aged 5-10 years) from Burkina Faso with (a) incident infections following parasite clearance and (b) chronic asymptomatic infections.
Journal ArticleDOI
Dynamics of malaria transmission and susceptibility to clinical malaria episodes following treatment of Plasmodium falciparum asymptomatic carriers: results of a cluster-randomized study of community-wide screening and treatment, and a parallel entomology study
Alfred B. Tiono,Moussa W. Guelbeogo,N 'Fale Sagnon,Issa Nebie,Sodiomon B. Sirima,Amitava Mukhopadhyay,Kamal Hamed +6 more
TL;DR: Community screening and targeted treatment of asymptomatic carriers of P. falciparum had no effect on the dynamics of malaria transmission, but seemed to be associated with an increase in the treated community’s susceptibility to symptomatic malaria episodes after the screening campaigns had finished.
Journal ArticleDOI
Optimising the deployment of vector control tools against malaria: a data-informed modelling study.
Ellie Sherrard-Smith,Peter Winskill,Arran Hamlet,Corine Ngufor,Raphael N’Guessan,Moussa W. Guelbeogo,Antoine Sanou,R.K. Nash,Alexander Hill,Emma L Russell,Mark Woodbridge,Patrick K. Tungu,Mara D. Kont,Tom McLean,Christen M. Fornadel,Jason H. Richardson,Martin O'Donnell,Sarah G. Staedke,Sam Gonahasa,Natascha Protopopoff,Mark Rowland,Thomas S. Churcher +21 more
TL;DR: In this paper , the authors used published data from experimental hut trials conducted across Africa to characterise the entomological effect of pyrethroid-only ITNs versus ITNs combining with the synergist piperonyl butoxide (PBO).
