Journal ArticleDOI

Purification and structural characterization of rat liver threonyl transfer ribonucleic acid synthetase

TL;DR: Threonyl-tRNA synthetase was purified approximately 500-fold from a high-speed supernatant fraction of rat liver and appears to be an alpha 2 dimer, while preliminary carbohydrate analyses suggested that the enzyme is a glycoprotein.
Journal ArticleDOI

The gene for the longest known Escherichia coli protein is a member of helicase superfamily II

TL;DR: The Escherichia coli rnt gene, which encodes the RNA-processing enzyme RNase T, is cotranscribed with a downstream gene, making it the longest known protein in E. coli and suggesting that very large helicases are present in this organism.
Journal ArticleDOI

Escherichia coli RNase D. Catalytic properties and substrate specificity.

TL;DR: Study of the mode of action of RNase D indicates that it is an exonuclease which initiates hydrolysis at the 3'-terminus and removes 5'-mononucleotides in a random fashion, and the relation of these properties to its possible role as a processing nuclease is discussed.
Journal ArticleDOI

Ribosomes Regulate the Stability and Action of the Exoribonuclease RNase R

TL;DR: A novel regulatory mechanism affecting RNase R, a 3′ to 5′ exoribonuclease able to act on essentially all RNAs including those with extensive secondary structure is described, indicating a previously unknown role for ribosomes in cellular homeostasis.
