Journal ArticleDOI
The role of individual exoribonucleases in processing at the 3' end of Escherichia coli tRNA precursors.
Zhongwei Li,Murray P. Deutscher +1 more
TL;DR: These studies provide the first detailed information about the specific role of individual exoribonucleases in tRNA processing, and bring us closer to defining a complete E. coli tRNA maturation pathway.
Journal ArticleDOI
Structural Basis for Processivity and Single-Strand Specificity of RNase II
TL;DR: The crystal structure of E. coli RNase II is reported, which reveals an architecture reminiscent of the RNA exosome, which provides an explanation for the processivity ofRNase II and for why its action is limited to single-stranded RNA.
Book ChapterDOI
Synthesis and functions of the -C-C-A terminus of transfer RNA.
TL;DR: This chapter discusses the established central role of tRNA in the biosynthesis of proteins and reviews the studies dealing with the synthesis and function of the -C-C-A terminus of t RNA.
Journal ArticleDOI
Oligoribonuclease Is Encoded by a Highly Conserved Gene in the 3′-5′ Exonuclease Superfamily
TL;DR: NH2-terminal sequence analysis of the protein identified the gene encoding oligoribonuclease as yjeR (o204a), a previously reported open reading frame located at 94 min on the E. coli chromosome, and it is proposed that yJeR be renamed orn.
Journal ArticleDOI
Identification and characterization of RsmE, the founding member of a new RNA base methyltransferase family.
TL;DR: It is shown that the protein encoded by yggJ, a member of the uncharacterized DUF558 protein family of predicted alpha/beta (trefoil) knot methyltransferases is responsible for methylation at U1498 in 16S rRNA, and it is proposed that the gene be renamed rsmE.
