Radiocarbon Calibration by Means of Mass Spectrometric 230Th/234U and 14C Ages of Corals: An Updated Database Including Samples from Barbados, Mururoa and Tahiti
TL;DR: Bard et al. as mentioned in this paper measured 14C and 230Th ages on new samples collected from boreholes drilled off the islands of Tahiti and Mururoa (French Polynesia) in order to complement the database previously obtained on Barbados corals.
Journal ArticleDOI
Palaeolithic paintings: Evolution of prehistoric cave art
H. Valladas,Jean Clottes,J.-M. Geneste,M. A. Garcia,Maurice Arnold,Hélène Cachier,Nadine Tisnérat-Laborde +6 more
TL;DR: New radiocarbon dates for the drawings that decorate the Chauvet cave in Vallon-Pont-d'Arc, Ardèche, France, confirm that even 30,000 years ago Aurignacian artists, already known as accomplished carvers, could create masterpieces comparable to the best Magdalenian art.
Journal ArticleDOI
Variations of Younger Dryas atmospheric radiocarbon explicable without ocean circulation changes
TL;DR: A high-resolution reconstruction of atmospheric radiocarbon concentrations, derived from annually laminated sediments of two Polish lakes, indicates that the maximum in atmospheric radiOCarbon concentrations in the early Younger Dryas was smaller than previously believed, and might have been caused by variations in solar activity.
Journal ArticleDOI
Radiocarbon Ams Dates For Paleolithic Cave Paintings
H. Valladas,Nadine Tisnérat-Laborde,Hélène Cachier,Maurice Arnold,F. Bernaldo de Quirós,Victoria Cabrera-Valdès,Jean Clottes,J. Courtin,J J Fortea-Pérez,C Gonzáles-Sainz,A Moure-Romanillo +10 more
TL;DR: In this article, the authors used radiocarbon dating to date cave paintings from southern France and northern Spain using pigment samples collected from several paintings, and in some instances the sample size allowed for multiple independent measurements on the same figure, so that the coherence of the calculated dates could be tested.
Journal ArticleDOI
A new date for the neanderthals from El Sidrón cave (Asturias, Northern Spain)
Rachel Wood,Rachel Wood,Thomas Higham,T. de Torres,Nadine Tisnérat-Laborde,Hélène Valladas,José E. Ortiz,Carles Lalueza-Fox,Sergio Sanchez-Moral,Juan Carlos Cañaveras,Antonio Rosas,David Santamaría,M. de la Rasilla +12 more
TL;DR: In this paper, the authors used the ultrafiltration pre-treatment protocol to obtain a date of 48,400± 3200 bp (OxA-21,776) on a bone fragment and confirm the antiquity of the Neanderthal assemblage.
