Journal ArticleDOI
A ChIP-seq defined genome-wide map of vitamin D receptor binding: associations with disease and evolution.
Sreeram V. Ramagopalan,Andreas Heger,Antonio J. Berlanga,Narelle J. Maugeri,Matthew R. Lincoln,Amy M Burrell,Lahiru Handunnetthi,Adam E. Handel,Giulio Disanto,S M Orton,Corey T. Watson,Julia M. Morahan,Gavin Giovannoni,Chris P. Ponting,George C. Ebers,Julian C. Knight +15 more
TL;DR: ChIP-seq determination of transcription factor binding, in combination with GWA data, provides a powerful approach to further understanding the molecular bases of complex diseases.
Journal ArticleDOI
Expression of the Multiple Sclerosis-Associated MHC Class II Allele HLA-DRB1*1501 Is Regulated by Vitamin D
Sreeram V. Ramagopalan,Narelle J. Maugeri,Lahiru Handunnetthi,Lahiru Handunnetthi,Matthew R. Lincoln,Matthew R. Lincoln,S M Orton,S M Orton,David A. Dyment,David A. Dyment,Gabriele C. DeLuca,Gabriele C. DeLuca,Blanca M. Herrera,Blanca M. Herrera,Michael J. Chao,Michael J. Chao,A. Dessa Sadovnick,George C. Ebers,George C. Ebers,Julian C. Knight +19 more
TL;DR: In this article, a single MHC vitamin D response element (VDRE) was found to interact with inherited factors and sought responsive regulatory elements in the MHC class II region.
Journal ArticleDOI
LPAR1 and ITGA4 regulate peripheral blood monocyte counts.
Narelle J. Maugeri,Joseph E. Powell,Peter A C 't Hoen,Eco J. C. de Geus,Gonneke Willemsen,Mathijs Kattenberg,Anjali K. Henders,Leanne Wallace,Brenda W.J.H. Penninx,Jouke-Jan Hottenga,Sarah E. Medland,Viatcheslav Saviouk,Nicholas G. Martin,Peter M. Visscher,Gert-Jan B. van Ommen,Ian H. Frazer,Dorret I. Boomsma,Grant W. Montgomery,Manuel A. R. Ferreira +18 more
TL;DR: The results indicate that rs7023923 and rs6740847 respectively upregulate LPAR1 and downregulate ITGA4 expression and this increases the number of monocytes circulating in the peripheral blood.
Journal ArticleDOI
Genetic determinants of HSP70 gene expression following heat shock.
TL;DR: It is shown that genetic diversity is an important determinant of heat shock protein 70 expression involving local, likely cis-acting, polymorphisms and this work illustrates how analysis of a heritable induced expression phenotype can be highly informative in defining functionally important genetic variation.
Journal Article
Expression of the multiple sclerosis associated MHC class II allele HLA-DRBI*1501 is regulated by vitamin D
George C. Ebers,Sreeram V Ramagopalan,Narelle J. Maugeri,David A. Dyment,Matthew R. Lincoln,S M Orton,Gabriele C. DeLuca,Blanca M. Herrera,Lahiru Handunnetthi,Michael J. Chao,Kate Wicks,Julian C. Knight +11 more
TL;DR: This study implicates vitamin D as a strong environmental candidate in MS by demonstrating direct functional interaction with the major locus determining genetic susceptibility by supporting a connection between the main epidemiological and genetic features of this disease.
