Deposits of clastic carbonate-dominated (calciclastic) sedimentary slope systems in the rock record have been identified mostly as linearly-consistent carbonate apron deposits, even though most ancient clastic carbonate slope deposits fit the submarine fan systems better. Calciclastic submarine fans are consequently rarely described and are poorly understood. Subsequently, very little is known especially in mud-dominated calciclastic submarine fan systems. Presented in this study are a sedimentological core and petrographic characterisation of samples from eleven boreholes from the Lower Carboniferous of Bowland Basin (Northwest England) that reveals a >250 m thick calciturbidite complex deposited in a calciclastic submarine fan setting. Seven facies are recognised from core and thin section characterisation and are grouped into three carbonate turbidite sequences. They include: 1) Calciturbidites, comprising mostly of highto low-density, wavy-laminated bioclast-rich facies; 2) low-density densite mudstones which are characterised by planar laminated and unlaminated muddominated facies; and 3) Calcidebrites which are muddy or hyper-concentrated debrisflow deposits occurring as poorly-sorted, chaotic, mud-supported floatstones. Advances in atomic physics, such as cooling and trapping of atoms and molecules and developments in frequency metrology, have added orders of magnitude to the precision of atom-based clocks and sensors. Applications extend beyond atomic physics and this article reviews using these new techniques to address important challenges in physics and to look for variations in the fundamental constants, search for interactions beyond the standard model of particle physics, and test the principles of general relativity.

Search for New Physics with Atoms and Molecules

Behaviour of the Co magnetic moments in dilute PtFe alloys was studied in the temperature range of 5-50 mK and the external magnetic field range of 0-8.5 T using low-temperature nuclear orientation. Kondo behaviour of Co, known to exist in pure Pt, was found in the sample of lowest concentration only (Pt+0.22 at.% Fe). Large misalignment of the Co magnetic moments was seen, especially for alloys having Fe concentration slightly above the percolation limit 0.76 at.%. An anomaly in the hyperfine field value on the Co nucleus was also found in these alloys. >

Figure 6 seem sto show a spectrum oftriple coincidencesbetween three di erentdetectors. W ithout that it is m entioned explicitly in the gure caption,the explanations given seem to indicate thatthe horizontalaxisrepresentsthe tim e between an eventin the electron detector and an eventin theproton detector.Itwassaid in the textthatthefeaturein \channel120 in Fig.6" containscoincidencesbetween decay electronsand protons,along with an eventin one ofthegam m a detectors.However,no width ofthecoincidencewindow isstated.Further,since exactly thistype ofeventswasannounced to be used fordeterm ination ofthe branching ratio ofradiative neutron decay,thestatem entthattheanalysisofthebranching ratio wasbased on the leftm ost peak with m axim um in channel102 rem ains com pletely incom prehensible. Also, no attem ptforexplanation ism ade forthe broad bum p with m axim um ataboutchannel165 in Fig.6. Besides these de ciencies ofthe presented treatm ent it is obvious that the detector setup allowsform any typesofevents which were notdiscussed. W ithouta carefulanalysisofbackgrounds one just cannot extract any quantitative inform ation about neutron decay, and in particularnotseriously extracta branching ratio ofa hitherto unuobserved e ect.W etherefore do notendorsetheclaim ofthe rstauthorto have observed radiative neutron decay.
