Inhibition of oxidative metabolism leads to p53 genetic inactivation and transformation in neural stem cells
Stefano Bartesaghi,Vincenzo Graziano,Sara Galavotti,Nick V. Henriquez,Joanne Betts,Jayeta Saxena,Valentina Minieri,A Deli,Anna Karlsson,L. Miguel Martins,Melania Capasso,Pierluigi Nicotera,Sebastian Brandner,Vincenzo De Laurenzi,Paolo Salomoni +14 more
TL;DR: In this paper, the p53 tumor suppressor is genetically inactivated in a large proportion of high grade glioma (HGG) cases, which is caused by increased reactive oxygen species and associated oxidative DNA damage.
Journal ArticleDOI
Epigenetic regulation of survivin by Bmi1 is cell type specific during corticogenesis and in gliomas.
Serena Acquati,Azzura Greco,Danilo Licastro,Heeta Bhagat,Dario Ceric,Zefferino Rossini,Joan Grieve,M Shaked-Rabi,Nick V. Henriquez,Sebastian Brandner,Elia Stupka,Silvia Marino +11 more
TL;DR: It is shown that overexpression of Bmi1 induces repressive epigenetic regulation of the promoter of Survivin, a well‐characterized antiapoptotic protein, and this raises the possibility that normal and neoplastic stem cells depend on the same mechanism for surviving the hyperproliferative state induced by increased Bmi 1 expression.
