Journal ArticleDOI
Effects of different regimens to lower blood pressure on major cardiovascular events in older and younger adults: meta-analysis of randomised trials.
Fiona Turnbull,Bruce Neal,Toshiharu Ninomiya,Charles S. Algert,Hisatomi Arima,Federica Barzi,Christopher J. Bulpitt,John Chalmers,Robert Fagard,Andrew Gleason,Stephane Heritier,Nicole Li,Vlado Perkovic,Mark Woodward,Stephen MacMahon +14 more
TL;DR: Reduction of blood pressure produces benefits in younger and older adults, with no strong evidence that protection against major vascular events afforded by different drug classes varies substantially with age.
Journal ArticleDOI
Effect of Salt Substitution on Cardiovascular Events and Death.
Bruce Neal,Yangfeng Wu,Xiangxian Feng,Ruijuan Zhang,Yuhong Zhang,Jingpu Shi,Jianxin Zhang,Maoyi Tian,Liping Huang,Zhifang Li,Yan Yu,Yi Zhao,Bo Zhou,Jixin Sun,Yishu Liu,Xuejun Yin,Zhixin Hao,Jie Yu,Ka-Chun Li,Xinyi Zhang,Peifen Duan,Faxuan Wang,Bing Ma,Weiwei Shi,Gian Luca Di Tanna,Sandrine Stepien,Sana Shan,Sallie-Anne Pearson,Nicole Li,Lijing L. Yan,Darwin R. Labarthe,Paul Elliott +31 more
TL;DR: Among persons who had a history of stroke or were 60 years of age or older and had high blood pressure, the rates of stroke, major cardiovascular events, and death from any cause were lower with the salt substitute than with regular salt.
Journal ArticleDOI
Do men and women respond differently to blood pressure-lowering treatment? Results of prospectively designed overviews of randomized trials.
Fiona Turnbull,Mark Woodward,Bruce Neal,Federica Barzi,Toshiharu Ninomiya,John Chalmers,Vlado Perkovic,Nicole Li,Stephen MacMahon +8 more
TL;DR: All of the blood pressure-lowering regimens studied here provided broadly similar protection against major cardiovascular events in men and women, suggesting differences in cardiovascular risks between sexes are unlikely to reflect differences in response to blood pressure -lowering treatments.
Journal ArticleDOI
Blood pressure lowering and major cardiovascular events in people with and without chronic kidney disease: meta-analysis of randomised controlled trials.
Toshiharu Ninomiya,Vlado Perkovic,Fiona Turnbull,Bruce Neal,Federica Barzi,Alan Cass,Colin Baigent,John Chalmers,Nicole Li,Mark Woodward,Stephen MacMahon +10 more
TL;DR: Blood pressure lowering is an effective strategy for preventing cardiovascular events among people with moderately reduced eGFR, and there is little evidence from these overviews to support the preferential choice of particular drug classes for the prevention of cardiovascular events in chronic kidney disease.
Journal ArticleDOI
International collaborative project to compare and monitor the nutritional composition of processed foods
Elizabeth Dunford,Elizabeth Dunford,Jacqui Webster,Adriana Blanco Metzler,Sébastien Czernichow,Cliona Ni Mhurchu,Petro Wolmarans,Wendy Snowdon,Wendy Snowdon,Wendy Snowdon,Mary R. L’Abbé,Nicole Li,Pallab K. Maulik,Simón Barquera,Verónica Schoj,Lorena Allemandi,Norma Sammán,Elizabete Wenzel de Menezes,Trevor Hassell,Johana Ortiz,Julieta Salazar de Ariza,A. Rashid A. Rahman,Leticia G. de Núñez,Maria Reyes Garcia,Caroline T M van Rossum,Susanne Westenbrink,Lim Meng Thiam,Graham A. MacGregor,Bruce Neal +28 more
TL;DR: This collaborative approach to the collation and sharing of data will enable objective and transparent tracking of processed food composition around the world and support government and food industry efforts to improve the nutrient composition of processed foods.
