Influence of interfacial waves in stratified gas‐liquid flows
TL;DR: In this article, the authors calculated the interfacial stresses from new measurements of liquid height and pressure drop for fully developed horizontal stratified flow, which are related to wave properties.
Journal ArticleDOI
A study of CaCO3 scale formation and inhibition in RO and NF membrane processes
C. H. Tzotzi,C. H. Tzotzi,T. Pahiadaki,S.G. Yiantsios,Anastasios J. Karabelas,Nikolaos Andritsos +5 more
TL;DR: In this paper, the formation of CaCO3 deposits on RO and NF membranes was investigated in connection with permeate flux decline, in the presence and absence of scale inhibitors, in order to examine the extent of metastable region without scaling and the scale characteristics.
Journal ArticleDOI
Interfacial instabilities for horizontal gas-liquid flows in pipelines
TL;DR: In this article, three types of instabilities are defined: regular 2-D waves are associated with pressure variations in phase with the wave slope, irregular large-amplitude waves and atomization of the liquid are associated to pressure variations, and linear stability theory is used to provide a physical interpretation and to predict conditions for the initiation of these instabilities.
Journal ArticleDOI
Modified stainless steel surfaces targeted to reduce fouling - Evaluation of fouling by milk components
R. Rosmaninho,Olga Santos,Tommy Nylander,Marie Paulsson,Morgane Beuf,Thierry Benezech,S.G. Yiantsios,Nikolaos Andritsos,Anastasios J. Karabelas,G. Rizzo,Hans Müller-Steinhagen,Luís F. Melo +11 more
TL;DR: In this article, several stainless steel-based surfaces with different properties were evaluated according to their fouling behavior for different dairy products under different conditions, and the most suitable surface for bacterial adhesion was the ion implanted (TiC) surface, which also showed less spores after the cleaning process.
Journal ArticleDOI
Modified stainless steel surfaces targeted to reduce fouling––surface characterization
Olga Santos,Tommy Nylander,R. Rosmaninho,G. Rizzo,S.G. Yiantsios,Nikolaos Andritsos,Anastasios J. Karabelas,Hans Müller-Steinhagen,Luís F. Melo,Laurence Boulangé-Petermann,Christelle Gabet,Alan Braem,Christian Trägårdh,Marie Paulsson +13 more
TL;DR: In this paper, the surface properties of several modified stainless steel samples were characterized according to their chemical composition, roughness, topography and wettability using X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS).
