Journal ArticleDOI

Calcium-activated potassium channels and their role in secretion

TL;DR: Three kinds of membrane potassium channels activated by intracellular calcium ions in animal cells are characterized by the patch-clamp technique, playing a crucial part in the regulation of membrane potential and of secretion.
Journal ArticleDOI

Synergism of inositol trisphosphate and tetrakisphosphate in activating Ca2+-dependent K+ channels.

TL;DR: It is shown that neither Ins P3 alone nor Ins P4 alone can activate a sustained current, whereas inositol 1,3,4,5-tetrakisphosphate in combination in combination evoke a sustained increase in Ca2+-activated K+ current which is dependent on external Ca2+.
Journal ArticleDOI

Local and global cytosolic Ca2+ oscillations in exocrine cells evoked by agonists and inositol trisphosphate

TL;DR: It is demonstrated that low (physiological) agonist concentrations evoke local cytosolic Ca2+ spikes in the secretory pole of single mouse pancreatic acinar cells that are particularly sensitive to blockade by the IP3 receptor antagonist heparin.
