Journal ArticleDOI
Mutant Gene That Changes Protein Composition and Increases Lysine Content of Maize Endosperm
TL;DR: It is shown that the endosperms of maize seeds homozygous for the opaque-2 mutant gene have a higher lysine content than normal kernels and the synthesis of proteins with a greater content of basic amino acids in the acid-soluble fraction of the mutant endosperm.
Journal ArticleDOI
Second Mutant Gene Affecting the Amino Acid Pattern of Maize Endosperm Proteins
TL;DR: The mutant floury-2 results in the production of maize endosperm proteins with an altered amino acid pattern that is high, eapproximately equal to that in mutant opaque-2, and the methionine concentration is higher than in any other stock tested.
Journal ArticleDOI
The enzymatic deficiency in the waxy mutant of maize
Oliver E. Nelson,Howard W. Rines +1 more
Journal ArticleDOI
Starch-Deficient Maize Mutant Lacking Adenosine Diphosphate Glucose Pyrophosphorylase Activity
Chia-Yin Tsai,Oliver E. Nelson +1 more
TL;DR: The maize mutant shrunken-2 synthesizes only 25 to 30 percent as much starch as normal maize; it completely lacks adenosine diphosphate glucose pyrophosphorylase activity in both endosperm and embryo tissue.
Journal ArticleDOI
The abnormal lignins produced by the brown-midrib mutants of maize. i. the brown-midrib-1 mutant.
Joseph Kuć,Oliver E. Nelson +1 more
TL;DR: It is suggested that the primary action of the non-mutant ( Bm 1 ) gene at the bm 1 locus is to exert a measure of control over the manner of incorporation of the phenolic building blocks into the lignin polymer.
