Journal ArticleDOI
First stars VI - Abundances of C, N, O, Li, and mixing in extremely metal-poor giants. Galactic evolution of the light elements
M. Spite,Roger Cayrel,Bertrand Plez,V. Hill,Francois Spite,Éric Depagne,P. Francois,P. Bonifacio,Beatriz Barbuy,Timothy C. Beers,Johannes Andersen,Paolo Molaro,B. Nordstroem,Francesca Primas +13 more
TL;DR: In this article, the origin of nitrogen in the early Galaxy was investigated by determining N abundances in 35 extremely metal-poor halo giants (22 stars have [Fe/H]<-3.0) using the C and O abundances determined in Paper V.
Journal ArticleDOI
The metal-poor end of the Spite plateau. 1: Stellar parameters, metallicities and lithium abundances
Luca Sbordone,P. Bonifacio,Elisabetta Caffau,H. G. Ludwig,N. T. Behara,J. I. González Hernández,Matthias Steffen,R. Cayrel,Bernd Freytag,C. van't Veer,Paolo Molaro,Bertrand Plez,T. Sivarani,M. Spite,Francois Spite,Timothy C. Beers,Norbert Christlieb,P. Francois,V. Hill +18 more
TL;DR: In this article, the authors present VLT-UVES Li abundances for 28 halo dwarf stars between [Fe/H]=-2.5 and -3.5.
Journal ArticleDOI
First stars IX- mixing in extremely metal-poor giants. Variation of the 12C/13C, [Na/Mg] and [Al/Mg] ratios
M. Spite,Roger Cayrel,V. Hill,Francois Spite,P. Francois,Bertrand Plez,P. Bonifacio,Paolo Molaro,E. Depagne,Johannes Andersen,Beatriz Barbuy,Timothy C. Beers,Birgitta Nordström,Birgitta Nordström,Francesca Primas +14 more
TL;DR: In this article, the authors measured 12C and 13C abundances in 35 metal-poor field giants (including 22 with {[Fe/H] < -3.0}) from high-quality VLT/UVES spectra analyzed with LTE model atmospheres.
Journal ArticleDOI
A Search for Stars of Very Low Metal Abundance. V. Photoelectric UBV Photometry of Metal-weak Candidates from the Northern HK Survey
TL;DR: In this article, photoelectric UBV data for 268 metal-poor candidates chosen from the northern HK objective-prism/interference-filter survey of Beers and colleagues are reported.
Journal ArticleDOI
First stars IX -Mixing in extremely metal-poor giants. Variation of the 12C/13C, [Na/Mg] and [Al/Mg] ratios
M. Spite,Roger Cayrel,V. Hill,Francois Spite,P. Francois,B. Plez,P. Bonifacio,Paolo Molaro,Éric Depagne,Johannes Andersen,Beatriz Barbuy,Timothy C. Beers,B. Nordstroem,Francesca Primas +13 more
TL;DR: The 12C/13C ratio is the most robust diagnostic of deep mixing, because it is insensitive to the adopted stellar parameters and should be uniformly high in near-primordial gas as mentioned in this paper.
