Pan-continental invasion of Pseudorasbora parva: towards a better understanding of freshwater fish invasions
Rodolphe E. Gozlan,Demetra Andreou,Takashi Asaeda,Kathleen Beyer,Rachid Bouhadad,Dean Burnard,Nuno Caiola,P. Cakic,Vesna Djikanovic,Hamid Reza Esmaeili,Istvan Falka,Duncan Golicher,Akos Harka,Galina Jeney,Vladimír Kováč,Jiří Musil,Annamaria Nocita,Meta Povz,Nicolas Poulet,Tomas Virbickas,Christian Wolter,A. Serhan Tarkan,Elena Tricarico,Teodora Trichkova,Hugo Verreycken,Andrzej Witkowski,Chun Guang Zhang,Irene Zweimueller,J. Robert Britton +28 more
TL;DR: The Pseudorasbora parva invasion has provided quantitative data for the development of 1) early warning systems across different spatial scales; 2) rapid eradication programmes prior to natural spread in open systems and 3) sound risk assessments with emphasis on plasticity of life history traits.
Journal ArticleDOI
Distribution of Anodonta (Sinanodonta) woodiana (Rea, 1834) in inland waters of Serbia
TL;DR: Heavily modified and artificial aquatic habitats, with high silting rates, were found to be especially suitable for population by A. woodiana, and a mass occurrence of Chinese mussel was observed among these habitats, particularly where bottom substrata were characterised by the domination of silt-clay.
Journal ArticleDOI
Distribution of Asian clams Corbicula fluminea (Müller, 1774) and C. fluminalis (Müller, 1774) in Serbia
Momir Paunović,Béla Csányi,S. Kneževic,Vladica Simić,D. Nenadic,Dunja Jakovcev-Todorovic,B. Stojanovic,P. Cakic +7 more
TL;DR: The distribution of Corbicula, as well as some other alien aquatic invertebrate taxa (Branchiura sowerbyi, Anodonta woodiana, Orconectes limosus), indicate that heavily modified waterways are suitable recipient areas for species introduction and adaptation.
Journal ArticleDOI
Biometric analysis of Syngnathus abastev populations
TL;DR: The Danube populations showed significantly greater values for antedorsal and anteanal distances, but considerably smaller values for postdorsal distance and head length than other populations analysed (Tukey-Kramer's test).
Journal ArticleDOI
Superoxide dismutase and catalase activities in the liver and muscle of barbel (Barbus barbus) and its intestinal parasite (Pomphoryinchus laevis) from the Danube river, Serbia
B Tijana Radovanovic,Slavica Borković-Mitić,R Branka Perendija,G Svetlana Despotovic,S.Z. Pavlovic,P. Cakic,S Zorica Saicic +6 more
TL;DR: This work represents the first study of SOD and CAT activities in the barbel and its intestinal parasites and shows thatbarbel and acanthocephalans are very useful for biomonitoring studies in aquatic ecosystems.
