Nitric acid particles in cold thick ice clouds observed at global scale: Link with lightning, temperature, and upper tropospheric water vapor

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors derived the signatures of nitric acid particles (NAP) in cold thick ice clouds from satellite observations and found that NAP occurrence increases as cloud temperature decreases and NAP are more numerous in January than July.

Development of methods for inferring cloud thickness and cloud-base height from satellite radiance data

TL;DR: In this article, surface and satellite data taken during the First ISCCP Regional Experiment (FIRE) Phase-2 Intensive Field Observation (IFO) period (13 Nov. - 7 Dec. 1991) were used to improve techniques for deriving cloud-base height from conventional satellite data.

A Climatology of Midlatitude Continental Clouds from the ARM SGP Site

TL;DR: In this article, the authors analyzed data collected at the Department of Energy Atmospheric Radiation Measurement (ARM) Southern Great Plains (SGP) Central Facility (SCF) to determine the monthly and hourly variations of cloud fraction and radiative forcing between January 1997 and December 2002.

Cloud Radiative Forcing at the ARM Climate Research Facility. Part 1; Technique, Validation, and Comparison to Satellite-derived Diagnostic Quantities

TL;DR: In this article, the authors present a survey of meteorological institutions in the United States, focusing on the following: 1. Department of Meteorology, University of Utah 2. Cooperative Institute for Mesoscale Meteorological Studies University of Oklahoma, Norman, OK 3. Center for Atmospheric Sciences, Hampton University 4. State University of New York at Albany 5. NASA Langley Research Center 6. Oregon State University 7. University of North Dakota 8. Pacific Northwest National Laboratory 9. Analytical Services and Materials Inc.
