Proposals for the classification and nomenclature of functional receptors for 5-hydroxytryptamine

TL;DR: This classification of 5-HT receptors into three main groups is based largely, but not exclusively, on data from studies in isolated peripheral tissues where definitive classification is possible, and is believed that this working classification will be relevant to functional responses to 5- HT in the central nervous system.
Journal ArticleDOI

Comparison of the actions of U-46619, a prostaglandin H2-analogue, with those of prostaglandin H2 and thromboxane A2 on some isolated smooth muscle preparations

TL;DR: It is suggested that U‐46619 is a selective TxA2‐mimetic and that it should therefore be a valuable tool in the study of the actions of TXA2.
Journal ArticleDOI

GR43175, a selective agonist for the 5‐HT1‐like receptor in dog isolated saphenous vein

TL;DR: It is demonstrated that GR43175 is a highly selective agonist for the 5‐HT1‐like receptors found in the dog saphenous vein, and also at those inhibiting neuronally mediated contractions in the same preparations.
Journal ArticleDOI

Studies of the characterisation of prostanoid receptors: A proposed classification

TL;DR: A nomenclature for prostanoid receptors is proposed, in which each receptor is designated the letter P preceded by a letter signifying the most potent natural prostanoids agonist at that receptor, such that receptors sensitive to PGs D2, E2, F2 alpha, I2 and TxA2 become DP-, EP-, FP-, IP and TP- receptors respectively.
