Central projections of melanopsin-expressing retinal ganglion cells in the mouse
Samer Hattar,Monica Kumar,Alexander Park,Patrick Tong,Jonathan Tung,King Wai Yau,David M. Berson +6 more
TL;DR: Staining patterns after monocular enucleation revealed that the projections of these cells are overwhelmingly crossed except for the projection to the SCN, which is bilaterally symmetrical, and that other ganglion cells do contribute at least some retinal input to these targets.
Journal ArticleDOI
Pigment epithelium-derived factor (PEDF) and vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) in aged human choroid and eyes with age-related macular degeneration
Imran Ahmed Bhutto,D. Scott McLeod,T. Hasegawa,Sahng Y. Kim,Carol Merges,Patrick Tong,Gerard A. Lutty +6 more
TL;DR: Analysis of localization and relative levels of vascular endothelial growth factor and pigment epithelium-derived factor in aged human choroid to determine if the localization or their relative levels changed in age-related macular degeneration (AMD) suggests that a critical balance exists between VEGF and V EGF, and PEDF may counteract the angiogenic potential of VEGf.
Journal ArticleDOI
Orthostatic intolerance and chronic fatigue syndrome associated with Ehlers-Danlos syndrome.
Peter C. Rowe,Diana F. Barron,Hugh Calkins,Irene H. Maumenee,Patrick Tong,Michael T. Geraghty +5 more
TL;DR: It is proposed that the occurrence of these syndromes together can be attributed to the abnormal connective tissue in dependent blood vessels of those with EDS, which permits veins to distend excessively in response to ordinary hydrostatic pressures, which leads to increased venous pooling and its hemodynamic and symptomatic consequences.
