Calculated phase diagrams and the corrosion of die-cast Mg–Al alloys

TL;DR: In this paper, the corrosion of commercial die-cast Mg-Al alloys was elucidated by a study, of the corrosion in 3% NaCl, of (i) high-pressure diecast (HPDC) model Mg alloys, (ii) low-purity Mg, (iii) high purity (HP) Mg and (iv) HP Mg heat treated at 550°C.
Journal ArticleDOI

The influence of yttrium (Y) on the corrosion of Mg–Y binary alloys

TL;DR: Corrosion of Mg-Y alloys using electrochemical evaluations, immersion tests and direct observations was studied in this paper, which revealed that a predominant feature was hydrogen evolution from particular parts of the alloy surface.
Journal ArticleDOI

An exploratory study of the corrosion of Mg alloys during interrupted salt spray testing

TL;DR: In this article, a systematic investigation was carried out to understand the corrosion of common Mg alloys (Pure Mg, AZ31, AZ91, AM30, AM60, ZE41) exposed to interrupted salt spray.
Journal ArticleDOI

A first quantitative XPS study of the surface films formed, by exposure to water, on Mg and on the Mg–Al intermetallics: Al3Mg2 and Mg17Al12

TL;DR: In this paper, an XPS investigation was carried out of the surface films, formed by exposure to ultrapure water, on mechanically ground Mg and the two Mg-Al intermetallic compounds: Al3Mg2 and Mg17Al12.
Journal ArticleDOI

The influence of MgSi particle reactivity and dissolution processes on corrosion in Al–Mg–Si alloys

TL;DR: In this paper, a detailed electrochemical and compositional characterization of MgSi precipitates in Al-Mg-Si alloys during corrosion processes was performed, and it was found that in 1-M NaCl solution, Mg Si particles are selectively de-alloyed by Mg, the process starting within the first few seconds and ceasing after about 20min.
