Bacterial DNA within granulomas of patients with Crohn's disease--detection by laser capture microdissection and PCR.
Paul Ryan,Raymond Kelly,Garry Lee,J. Kevin Collins,Gerald C. O'Sullivan,Joe O'Connell,Fergus Shanahan +6 more
TL;DR: E. coli DNA may be detected more frequently in Crohn'sgranulomas than in other non-Crohn's bowel granulomas, which may indicate a tendency for lumenal bacteria to colonize inflamed tissue, or may be due to increased uptake of bacterial DNA by gut antigen presenting cells.
Journal ArticleDOI
PCR detection of Mycobacterium paratuberculosis in Crohn’s disease granulomas isolated by laser capture microdissection
Paul Ryan,Michael W. Bennett,Simon Aarons,G Lee,John Kevin Collins,Gerald C. O'Sullivan,Joe O'Connell,Fergus Shanahan +7 more
TL;DR: LCM can be used to detect Map DNA in granulomas in a proportion of patients with Crohn’s disease, however, formalin fixation requires that comparatively short DNA fragments of the Map specific IS900 gene be targeted, to permit consistent detection.
Journal ArticleDOI
Apprenticeship in the British 'Training Market'
Paul Ryan,Lorna Unwin +1 more
TL;DR: In this article, the authors compared the performance of British apprenticeship to German apprenticeship and its national predecessor, Youth Training, and found that British apprenticeships performed poorly, in terms of rates of qualification and completion, as well as in breadth and depth of training, relative to its German counterpart, despite the provision by Modern Apprenticeship of substantial government financial support.
Journal ArticleDOI
The Ordovician evolution of the South Mayo Trough, western Ireland
John F. Dewey,Paul Ryan +1 more
TL;DR: The South Mayo Trough is interpreted as a forearc basin with an ophiolitic basement that formed a backstop to an accretionary prism on the northern edge of a north-facing arc as discussed by the authors.
Journal ArticleDOI
The political economy of collective skill formation
TL;DR: Busemeyer and Trampusch as discussed by the authors described continuity and change in the Swiss in Europe: a history of Switzerland in Europe, 2012, 389 pp., £60.00 (hardback), ISBN 978-0-19-959943-1
