Journal ArticleDOI
Bacterial Urease and its Role in Long-Lasting Human Diseases
Iwona Konieczna,Paulina Zarnowiec,Marek Kwinkowski,Beata Kolesinska,Justyna Fraczyk,Zbigniew J. Kaminski,Wiesław Kaca +6 more
TL;DR: A synthetic report on a molecular organization of bacterial ureases - genetic as well as structural is presented, which describes methods used in detecting urease and ureolytic activity, including techniques applied in disease diagnostic processes and in chemical synthesis of Urease epitopes.
Journal ArticleDOI
Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR) as a Tool for the Identification and Differentiation of Pathogenic Bacteria
TL;DR: Methods of human bacterial pathogen identification need to be fast, reliable, inexpensive, and time efficient, and these requirements may be met by vibrational spectroscopic techniques.
Journal ArticleDOI
Phenotypic characterization of an international Pseudomonas aeruginosa reference panel: strains of cystic fibrosis (CF) origin show less in vivo virulence than non-CF strains
Louise Cullen,Rebecca Weiser,Tomasz Olszak,Rita F. Maldonado,Ana S. P. Moreira,Lisa Slachmuylders,Gilles Brackman,Tsvetelina Paunova-Krasteva,Paulina Zarnowiec,Grzegorz Czerwonka,James Reilly,Pavel Drevinek,Wiesław Kaca,Oto Melter,Anthony De Soyza,Audrey Perry,Craig Winstanley,Stoyanka Stoitsova,Rob Lavigne,Eshwar Mahenthiralingam,Isabel Sá-Correia,Tom Coenye,Zuzanna Drulis-Kawa,Daria Augustyniak,Miguel A. Valvano,Siobhán McClean +25 more
TL;DR: Pseudomonas aeruginosa strains from a range of clinical and environmental sources were collated into a single reference strain panel to harmonise research on this diverse opportunistic pathogen and may provide a valuable resource for the testing of novel therapies against this problematic pathogen.
Journal ArticleDOI
In vitro and in vivo antibacterial activity of environmental bacteriophages against Pseudomonas aeruginosa strains from cystic fibrosis patients
Tomasz Olszak,Paulina Zarnowiec,Wiesław Kaca,Katarzyna Danis-Wlodarczyk,Katarzyna Danis-Wlodarczyk,Daria Augustyniak,Pavel Drevinek,Anthony De Soyza,Siobhán McClean,Zuzanna Drulis-Kawa +9 more
TL;DR: Generally, the wax moth model results confirmed the data from in vitro assays, but in massive infection of CF isolates, the application of lytic phages probably led to the release of toxic compound causing an increase in larvae mortality.
Journal ArticleDOI
Detection of antibodies against synthetic peptides mimicking ureases fragments in sera of rheumatoid arthritis patients.
Iwona Konieczna,Marek Kwinkowski,Beata Kolesinska,Zbigniew J. Kaminski,Paulina Zarnowiec,Wiesław Kaca +5 more
TL;DR: It is found that the level of antibodies against peptide mimicking urease "flap" region is significantly higher in sera from patients with rheumatoid arthritis in comparison with volunteer blood donor sera and it is observed that antibodies present in RA sera may bind not only specific peptide antigens but also peptides with a slightly different structure.
