Journal ArticleDOI
E-cadherin germline mutations in familial gastric cancer
Parry Guilford,Justin Hopkins,James Harraway,Maybelle McLeod,Ngahiraka McLeod,Pauline Harawira,Huriana Taite,Robin Scoular,Andrew P. Miller,Anthony E. Reeve +9 more
TL;DR: The identification of the gene responsible for early-onset, histologically poorly differentiated, high grade, diffuse gastric cancer in a large kindred from Aotearoa is described and the important role of E-cadherin mutations in cancer is confirmed.
Journal ArticleDOI
Hereditary diffuse gastric cancer: diagnosis and management.
Vanessa Blair,Iain G. Martin,David E. Shaw,Ingrid Winship,Dale Kerr,Julie Arnold,Pauline Harawira,Maybelle McLeod,Susan Parry,Susan Parry,Amanda Charlton,Michael Findlay,Brian Cox,Bostjan Humar,Helen More,Parry Guilford +15 more
TL;DR: It is recommended that genetic testing should occur at 16 years of age and that annual surveillance chromogastroscopy also should begin at age 16 in identified CDH-1 mutation carriers, and for individuals younger than 20 years and patients unwilling to undergo prophylactic gastrectomy.
Journal ArticleDOI
Chromoendoscopic surveillance in hereditary diffuse gastric cancer: an alternative to prophylactic gastrectomy?
David E. Shaw,Vanessa Blair,A Framp,Pauline Harawira,Maybelle McLeod,Parry Guilford,Susan Parry,Amanda Charlton,Iain G. Martin +8 more
TL;DR: If these findings are validated in other HDGC kindred, chromogastroscopy represents an improved surveillance technique that can be safely considered alongside prophylactic gastrectomy.
Journal ArticleDOI
Germline CDH1 mutations are a significant contributor to the high frequency of early-onset diffuse gastric cancer cases in New Zealand Māori
Christopher Hakkaart,Lis Ellison-Loschmann,Robert C. Day,Andrew Sporle,Jonathan Koea,Pauline Harawira,Soo Cheng,Michelle Gray,Tracey Whaanga,Neil Pearce,Parry Guilford +10 more
TL;DR: It is demonstrated that germline CDH1 mutations are a significant contributor to the high frequency of diffuse gastric cancer in New Zealand Māori.
Journal ArticleDOI
Risk of stomach cancer in Aotearoa/New Zealand: A Māori population based case-control study.
Lis Ellison-Loschmann,Andrew Sporle,Marine Corbin,Soo Cheng,Pauline Harawira,Michelle Gray,Tracey Whaanga,Parry Guilford,Jonathan Koea,Neil Pearce +9 more
TL;DR: In this article, the authors used logistic regression to estimate odd ratios (OR) and 95% confidence intervals (CI) between exposures and stomach cancer risk and found that exposure to environmental tobacco smoke was associated with increased stomach risk.
