Outcomes after stroke complicating left ventricular assist device
Joshua Z. Willey,Michael V. Gavalas,Pauline Trinh,Melana Yuzefpolskaya,A. Reshad Garan,A.P. Levin,Koji Takeda,Hiroo Takayama,Justin Fried,Yoshifumi Naka,Veli K. Topkara,Paolo C. Colombo +11 more
TL;DR: In-hospital mortality after stroke is significantly affected by the initial neurologic impairment and patients with IS appear to benefit the most from in-hospital treatment and often make sufficient recovery to be able to progress to transplant.
Journal ArticleDOI
Gut microbiota, endotoxemia, inflammation, and oxidative stress in patients with heart failure, left ventricular assist device, and transplant.
Melana Yuzefpolskaya,Bruno Bohn,M. Nasiri,A.M. Zuver,Drew D. Onat,E.A. Royzman,J. Nwokocha,M. Mabasa,Alberto Pinsino,Danielle Brunjes,A. Gaudig,Autumn M. Clemons,Pauline Trinh,Stephania Stump,Marla J. Giddins,Veli K. Topkara,A. Reshad Garan,Koji Takeda,Hiroo Takayama,Yoshifumi Naka,Maryjane Farr,Renu Nandakumar,Anne Catrin Uhlemann,Paolo C. Colombo,Ryan T. Demmer +24 more
TL;DR: Gut microbial community measures of alpha diversity were progressively lower across worsening HF class and were similarly reduced in patients with LVAD and HT, whereas reduced gut diversity and endotoxemia persist in LVad and HT.
Journal ArticleDOI
Association Between Nitrate-Reducing Oral Bacteria and Cardiometabolic Outcomes: Results From ORIGINS.
Charlene E. Goh,Pauline Trinh,Paolo C. Colombo,Jeanine M. Genkinger,Barun Mathema,Anne-Catrin Uhlemann,Charles A. LeDuc,Rudolph Leibel,Michael Rosenbaum,Bruce J. Paster,Bruce J. Paster,Moïse Desvarieux,Moïse Desvarieux,Panos N. Papapanou,David R. Jacobs,Ryan T. Demmer +15 more
TL;DR: A higher relative abundance of oral nitrate‐reducing bacteria was associated with lower insulin resistance and plasma glucose in the full cohort and with mean systolic BP in participants with normotension, and no associations were observed with prediabetes mellitus and hypertension.
Journal ArticleDOI
Ventricular Assist Device Utilization in Heart Transplant Candidates: Nationwide Variability and Impact on Waitlist Outcomes
Lauren K. Truby,A. Reshad Garan,Raymond C. Givens,Koji Takeda,Hiroo Takayama,Pauline Trinh,Melana Yuzefpolskaya,Maryjane Farr,Yoshifumi Naka,Paolo C. Colombo,Veli K. Topkara +10 more
TL;DR: Decision to use CF-LVAD and timing of transition should be individualized based on patient-, center-, and region-level risk factors to achieve optimal outcomes.
Journal ArticleDOI
Estrogen receptor‐β ligand treatment modulates dendritic cells in the target organ during autoimmune demyelinating disease
TL;DR: Ad adoptive transfer studies are used to show that ER‐β ligand treatment was protective in the effector, but not the induction phase of EAE, as shown by decreased clinical disease severity with the preservation of axons and myelin in spinal cords.
