Journal ArticleDOI

Microvascular invasion is a better predictor of tumor recurrence and overall survival following surgical resection for hepatocellular carcinoma compared to the Milan criteria.

TL;DR: Assessment of McVI should aid in patient selection for adjuvant treatments to improve outcomes after SR and show that McVI is a better predictor of tumor recurrence and OS than the Milan criteria after SR for HCC.
Journal ArticleDOI

Critical appraisal of 232 consecutive distal pancreatectomies with emphasis on risk factors, outcome, and management of the postoperative pancreatic fistula: a 21-year experience at a single institution.

TL;DR: Pancreatic fistula is the most common complication after DP and its incidence varies depending on the definition applied, as evidenced by the progressive increase in outcome measures such as postoperative stay, readmissions, reoperations, radiologic interventions, and non-PF-related complications from grade A to C PFs.
Journal ArticleDOI

A review of mucinous cystic neoplasms of the pancreas defined by ovarian-type stroma: clinicopathological features of 344 patients.

TL;DR: Pancreatic MCNs with OS have unique and distinct clinicopathological features and should be defined by the presence of OS, as it is the most reliable way of distinguishing MCNs from IPMN.
Journal ArticleDOI

An appraisal of surgical and percutaneous drainage for pyogenic liver abscesses larger than 5 cm.

TL;DR: The results of this study show that for large liver abscesses more than 5 cm, SD provides better clinical outcomes than PD in terms of treatment success, number of secondary procedures, and hospital stay with comparable morbidity and mortality rates.
Journal ArticleDOI

Cystic lesions of the pancreas: an appraisal of an aggressive resectional policy adopted at a single institution during 15 years

TL;DR: In this article, the authors reviewed the aggressive resectional policy for pancreatic cysts during the past 15 years and found that patients with premalignant or malignant potential were more likely to be malignant compared with symptomatic patients.
