Validation of VEGETATION, MODIS, and GOES + SSM/I snow‐cover products over Canada based on surface snow depth observations

TL;DR: In this article, the authors evaluated the performance of three daily snow cover products over Canada: (1) Terra Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) snow-cover maps provided at 500 m spatial resolution for 2001; (2) National Oceanic Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) GOES + SSM/I snow maps provided for cloud-covered areas; (3) SPOT-4 VEGETATION (VGT) snow maps derived at 1 km resolution for 2000.
Journal ArticleDOI

Automated Monitoring of Snow Cover over North America with Multispectral Satellite Data

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors developed an automated system that could provide NOAA analysts with a first-guess snow cover map and thus to reduce the human labor in the daily snow cover analysis.
Journal ArticleDOI

Mapping and monitoring of the snow cover fraction over North America

TL;DR: In this article, the authors presented a description of the snow cover and snow fraction mapping algorithms over North America for three winter seasons from 1999-2000 to 2001-2002, from operational geostationary and polar orbiting meteorological satellites and generated daily maps of snow cover at a spatial resolution of 4 km.
Journal ArticleDOI

An assessment of the differences between three satellite snow cover mapping techniques

TL;DR: In this article, the authors compared the NOHRSC snow cover maps with new automated SNC maps produced by the National Environmental Satellite, Data, and Information Service (NESDIS) and the SNC map created from the MODIS imagery.
