Journal ArticleDOI
Comparison of clinically used and experimental iron chelators for protection against oxidative stress-induced cellular injury.
Petra Bendova,Eliška Macková,Pavlína Hašková,Anna Vávrová,Eduard Jirkovsky,Martin Sterba,Olga Popelová,Danuta S. Kalinowski,Petra Kovarikova,Katerina Vavrova,Des R. Richardson,Tomas Simunek +11 more
TL;DR: The smaller and more lipophilic chelators, deferiprone, deferasirox, and pyridoxal isonicotinoyl hydrazone, were markedly more effective at preventing oxidative injury of cells, and the most effective chelator in terms of access to the intracellular labile iron pool was di-2-pyridylketone 4,4-dimethyl-3-thiosemicarbazone.
Journal ArticleDOI
Synthesis and initial in vitro evaluations of novel antioxidant aroylhydrazone iron chelators with increased stability against plasma hydrolysis.
Katerina Hruskova,Petra Kovarikova,Petra Bendova,Pavlína Hašková,Eliška Macková,Ján Stariat,Anna Vávrová,Katerina Vavrova,Tomas Simunek +8 more
TL;DR: The results of the present study indicate the possible applicability of several of these novel agents in the prevention and/or treatment of cardiovascular disorders with a known (or presumed) role of oxidative stress, particularly the methylketone HAPI and nitro group-containing NHAPI merit further in vivo investigations.
Journal ArticleDOI
Methyl and ethyl ketone analogs of salicylaldehyde isonicotinoyl hydrazone: Novel iron chelators with selective antiproliferative action
Eliška Macková,Kateřina Hrušková,Petra Bendova,Anna Vávrová,Hana Jansová,Pavlína Hašková,Petra Kovaříková,Kateřina Vávrová,Tomáš Šimůnek +8 more
TL;DR: This study identified several important design criteria for improvement of the antiproliferative selectivity of the aroylhydrazone iron chelators.
Journal ArticleDOI
Polymorphisms in microRNA binding sites of mucin genes as predictors of clinical outcome in colorectal cancer patients
Veronika Vymetalkova,Barbara Pardini,Fabio Rosa,Katerina Jiraskova,Cornelia Di Gaetano,Petra Bendova,Petra Bendova,Miloslav Levy,Veronika Veskrnova,Tomas Buchler,Ludmila Vodickova,Ludmila Vodickova,Alessio Naccarati,Pavel Vodicka,Pavel Vodicka +14 more
TL;DR: This is the first study investigating miRSNPs potentially affecting miRNA binding to mucin genes and revealing their impact on CRC susceptibility or patient’s survival, and more striking after stratification for tumor site.
Journal ArticleDOI
Molecular profile of 5-fluorouracil pathway genes in colorectal carcinoma
Tereza Kunická,Pavel Prochazka,I. Krus,Petra Bendova,Petra Bendova,M. Protivova,Simona Susova,Viktor Hlavac,Vaclav Liska,P. Novak,Michaela Schneiderova,Pavel Pitule,Jan Bruha,O. Vycital,Pavel Vodicka,Pavel Vodicka,Pavel Soucek +16 more
TL;DR: The observed overexpression of several 5-FU activating genes and DPYD downregulation deduce that chemotherapy naïve colorectal tumors share favorable gene expression profile for5-FU therapy.
