Journal ArticleDOI
Establishment and characterization of a human carcinoid in nude mice and effect of various agents on tumor growth.
B. Mark Evers,Courtney M. Townsend,J.Robert Upp,Erick Allen,Stephen C. Hurlbut,Sun Whe Kim,Srinivasan Rajaraman,Pomila Singh,Jean Claude Reubi,James C. Thompson +9 more
TL;DR: Establishment of this human carcinoid xenograft line, BON, provides an excellent model to study further the biological behavior of carcinoid tumors and the in vivo effect of chemotherapeutic agents on tumor growth.
Journal ArticleDOI
Characterization of insulinlike growth factor I receptors in human colon cancer
TL;DR: The widespread existence of high-affinity binding sites for IGF-I in established human colon cancer cell lines and freshly resected human colon cancers and the proliferative effect of IGF-i in several colon cancers cell lines, in vitro reflect that IGF- I may be an important endocrine/paracrine/autocrine factor in the growth regulation of colon cancers in situ.
Journal Article
Clinical significance of gastrin receptors in human colon cancers.
TL;DR: GR content of colon cancers may have prognostic significance and may identify a group of patients with colon cancer that may benefit from hormonal therapy with antigastrin drugs.
Journal ArticleDOI
Insulinlike growth factors and binding proteins in colon cancer
Pomila Singh,Norma H. Rubin +1 more
TL;DR: Current knowledge of the IGF system is summarized and support for a significant role of IGFs in the initiation and growth of colon cancers is presented.
Journal ArticleDOI
Transcriptional Activation of Insulin-Like Growth Factor-Binding Protein-4 by 17β-Estradiol in MCF-7 Cells: Role of Estrogen Receptor-Sp1 Complexes
TL;DR: To identify genomic sequences associated with E2 responsiveness, the 5′-promoter region of the IGFBP-4 gene was cloned into a vector upstream from the fireflyLuciferase reporter gene, and E2 induced a 10-fold increase in luciferase activity in MCF-7 cells transiently transfected with this construct.
