Journal ArticleDOI
Apoptosis in heart failure: Release of cytochrome c from mitochondria and activation of caspase-3 in human cardiomyopathy
Jagat Narula,Pramod Pandey,Eloisa Arbustini,Neena B. Haider,Navneet Narula,Frank D. Kolodgie,Barbara Dal Bello,Marc J. Semigran,Anna Bielsa-Masdeu,G. William Dec,Sara Israels,Manel Ballester,Renu Virmani,Satya Saxena,Surender Kharbanda +14 more
TL;DR: In vivo evidence of cytochrome c-dependent activation of cysteine proteases in human cardiomyopathy supports the phenomenon of apoptosis in myopathic process.
Journal ArticleDOI
Negative regulation of cytochrome c‐mediated oligomerization of Apaf‐1 and activation of procaspase‐9 by heat shock protein 90
Pramod Pandey,Ayman M. Saleh,Atsuko Nakazawa,Shailendra Kumar,Srinivasa M. Srinivasula,Vijay Kumar,Ralph R. Weichselbaum,Carlo Nalin,Emad S. Alnemri,Donald Kufe,Surender Kharbanda +10 more
TL;DR: These findings provide the first evidence for a negative cytosolic regulator of cytochrome c‐dependent apoptosis and for involvement of a chaperone in the caspase cascade.
Journal ArticleDOI
Proteolytic Activation of Protein Kinase C δ by an ICE/CED 3-like Protease Induces Characteristics of Apoptosis
Tariq Ghayur,Margaret Hugunin,Robert V. Talanian,Sheldon Ratnofsky,Christopher Quinlan,Yutaka Emoto,Pramod Pandey,Rakesh Datta,Yinyin Huang,Surender Kharbanda,Hamish Allen,Robert Kamen,Winnie W. Wong,Donald Kufe +13 more
TL;DR: The present studies demonstrate that full-length PKCδ is cleaved at DMQD330N to a catalytically active fragment by the cysteine protease CPP32, and suggest that proteolytic activation of PKC δ by a C PP32-like protease contributes to phenotypic changes associated with apoptosis.
Journal ArticleDOI
Activation of the c-Abl tyrosine kinase in the stress response to DNA-damaging agents
Surender Kharbanda,Ruibao Ren,Pramod Pandey,Timothy D. Shafman,Stephen M. Feller,Ralph R. Weichselbaum,Donald Kufe +6 more
TL;DR: It is shown that ionizing radiation activates c-Abl and this findings indicate that c-abl is involved in the stress response to DNA-damaging agents.
Journal ArticleDOI
Contamination of water resources by pathogenic bacteria
TL;DR: This review paper attempts to develop the first comprehensive single source of existing information on pathogen contamination in multiple types of water resources, and describes the challenges associated with using indicator organisms.
