Synthesis, anti-bacterial and anti-fungal activities of some novel Schiff bases containing 2,4-disubstituted thiazole ring

In order to increase antibacterial abilities and avoid aggregation of Ag nanoparticles, Ag−SiO2 nanocomposites were studied to achieve hybrid structure. SiO2 nanoparticles synthesized by the Stober method served as seeds for immobilization of Ag. The chemical binding structure and morphology of Ag−SiO2 nanocomposites and SiO2 nanoparticles were investigated with X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM). The antibacterial properties of Ag−SiO2 nanocomposites were examined with disk diffusion assay and minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC). Results showed that Ag nanoparticles are homogeneously formed on the surface of SiO2 nanoparticles without aggregation and showed excellent antibacterial abilities.

Metal complexes of a new thiosemicarbazone derived from 3-acetylumbelliferone (HL) have been prepared and characterized. The complexes have the general formula ML2 · nH2O where MII = Co, Ni, Cu and Zn; n = 0 and 2. The ligand and its complexes have been studied for their possible antitumour activity against HL-60 human leukemia in vitro.

In the title complex, [Cu(C6H4FN2O4)2(H2O)4]·4H2O, the Cu atom is located in the centre of a distorted octahedral geometry. The coordination atoms are six O atoms provided by two carboxyl­ate groups [coordinated in a monodentate mode, with Cu—O = 1.9551 (10) A] and four water mol­ecules [Cu—O = 1.9241 (13) and 2.5771 (14) A]. In addition, one intramolecular hydrogen bond and ten intermolecular hydrogen bonds make up a three-dimensional network.

Tetraaqua(5-fluorouracil-1-acetato-O)copper(II) tetrahydrate

The title compound, C22H20O6, has a central double bond of length 1.3694 (12) A. Two benzene rings, lying on different sides of the diethyl 2-butenedioate main chain, are almost parallel to each other and nearly perpendicular to the main chain. In the unit cell, two symmetry-equivalent mol­ecules are in general positions and two mol­ecules lie on inversion centres.

Diethyl trans‐2,3‐di­benzoyl‐2‐butenedioate

The title compound, [Ni(Ph2PCH2PPh2)2](ClO4)2, was synthesized and its structure determined crystallographically. The Ni atom lies on an inversion centre and is at the center of a square formed by four P atoms which are necessarily coplanar. The Ni—P distances are 2.2188 (5) and 2.2322 (5) A, and the P—Ni—P angle is 73.12 (3)°. The unique perchlorate anion is not coordinated to the Ni atom.
