Journal ArticleDOI
Ferroptosis contributes to developmental cell death in rice blast.
TL;DR: This study provides significant molecular insights into the role of developmental cell death and iron homeostasis in fungal pathogenesis and finds inter-reliant and independent roles for ferroptosis and autophagy in controlling such precise cell death in M. oryzae during pathogenic differentiation.
Journal ArticleDOI
Fungal effectors at the crossroads of phytohormone signaling.
TL;DR: Current advances in understanding of the role of fungal effectors in such antagonistic manipulation of phytohormones during pathogenic as well as symbiotic association with plant hosts are highlighted.
Journal ArticleDOI
Cpk2, a Catalytic Subunit of Cyclic AMP-PKA, Regulates Growth and Pathogenesis in Rice Blast.
TL;DR: This study identified and characterized the gene encoding the second catalytic subunit, CPK2, whose expression was found to be lower compared to CPKA at various stages of pathogenic growth in M. oryzae, and suggested an important role for CPK 2-mediated cAMP-PKA in surface sensing and response pathway.
Journal ArticleDOI
Tangeretin inhibits fungal ferroptosis to suppress rice blast.
Meiling Liang,Huijuan Ye,Qing Shen,Xianya Jiang,Guobing Cui,Wenxiang Gu,Lian-Hui Zhang,Naweed I. Naqvi,Yi Zhen Deng +8 more
TL;DR: Zhang et al. as discussed by the authors revealed that a natural flavonoid, tangeretin, substantially delays the formation of M. oryzae appressoria and blocks the development of blast lesions on rice plants.
