Thermal and mechanical properties of the near-surface layers of comet 67P/Churyumov-Gerasimenko
Tilman Spohn,Jörg Knollenberg,A. Ball,Marek Banaszkiewicz,Johannes Benkhoff,Matthias Grott,J. Grygorczuk,C. Hüttig,Axel Hagermann,G. Kargl,Erika Kaufmann,Norbert I. Kömle,Ekkehard Kührt,Konrad J. Kossacki,Wojciech Marczewski,Ivanka Pelivan,R. Schrödter,Karsten Seiferlin +17 more
TL;DR: Using data from the MUPUS instrument package gathered at the Philae landing site Abydos on comet 67P/Churyumov-Gerasimenko, the diurnal temperature to vary between 90 and 130 K and a sintered near-surface microporous dust-ice layer with a porosity of 30 to 65% is consistent with the data.

Alice Lucchetti,Cecilia Tubiana,Thomas Roatsch,Ricardo Hueso,Tilmann Denk,Jillian Schmidt,R. M. C. Lopes,D. Williams,J. Bell,N. Schneider,Luisa Lara,Klaus Gwinner,Kaufhold Stephan,Federico Tosi,Alessio Aboudan,Thomas J. Bilotta,Gabriele Cremonese,V. Della Corte,Antonina Dattolo,Stubbe F. Hviid,V. Mertens,Klaus-Dieter Matz,R. Politi,R. Schrödter,Frank Trauthan,Michele Zusi,Pasquale Palumbo +26 more
TL;DR: Lucchetti et al. as discussed by the authors used the JANUS system to study the properties of the Earth's magnetic field, and showed that it can be used to estimate the distance of the Sun from the Earth to the Earth.
