Johannes Benkhoff,Jan van Casteren,Hajime Hayakawa,Masaki Fujimoto,Harri Laakso,M. Novara,Paolo Ferri,H. R. Middleton,Ruth Ziethe +8 more
TL;DR: BepiColombo as mentioned in this paper is an interdisciplinary mission to explore Mercury, the planet closest to the sun, carried out jointly between the European Space Agency and the Japanese Aerospace Exploration Agency.
Journal ArticleDOI

TL;DR: The VIRTIS instrument on board the Rosetta spacecraft has provided evidence of carbon-bearing compounds on the nucleus of the comet 67P/Churyumov-Gerasimenko, and no ice-rich patches are observed, indicating a generally dehydrated nature for the surface currently illuminated by the Sun.
Journal ArticleDOI

TL;DR: The VIRTIS (Visual IR Thermal Imaging Spectrometer) experiment has been one of the most successful experiments built in Europe for Planetary Exploration as discussed by the authors, and it has been selected as a key experiment for 3 planetary missions: the ESA-Rosetta and Venus Express and NASA-Dawn.
Journal ArticleDOI

TL;DR: The Visible and Infrared Thermal Imaging Spectrometer (VIRTIS) on board the ESA/Venus Express mission has technical specifications well suited for many science objectives of Venus exploration as mentioned in this paper.
Journal ArticleDOI
Thermal and mechanical properties of the near-surface layers of comet 67P/Churyumov-Gerasimenko
Tilman Spohn,Jörg Knollenberg,A. Ball,Marek Banaszkiewicz,Johannes Benkhoff,Matthias Grott,J. Grygorczuk,C. Hüttig,Axel Hagermann,G. Kargl,Erika Kaufmann,Norbert I. Kömle,Ekkehard Kührt,Konrad J. Kossacki,Wojciech Marczewski,Ivanka Pelivan,R. Schrödter,Karsten Seiferlin +17 more
TL;DR: Using data from the MUPUS instrument package gathered at the Philae landing site Abydos on comet 67P/Churyumov-Gerasimenko, the diurnal temperature to vary between 90 and 130 K and a sintered near-surface microporous dust-ice layer with a porosity of 30 to 65% is consistent with the data.
