Journal ArticleDOI
Detection of He I $\lambda10830$ \AA{} absorption on HD 189733 b with CARMENES high-resolution transmission spectroscopy
M. Salz,S. Czesla,Peter Schneider,Erick Nagel,J. H. M. M. Schmitt,Lisa Nortmann,F. J. Alonso-Floriano,Manuel López-Puertas,M. Lampón,F. F. Bauer,Ignas Snellen,Enric Palle,Jose A. Caballero,Fei Yan,Guo Chen,Jorge Sanz-Forcada,Pedro J. Amado,A. Quirrenbach,I. Ribas,Ansgar Reiners,V. J. S. Béjar,N. Casasayas-Barris,M. Cortés-Contreras,S. Dreizler,Eike W. Guenther,Th. Henning,Sandra V. Jeffers,Adrian Kaminski,M. Kürster,M. Lafarga,L. M. Lara,Karan Molaverdikhani,D. Montes,Juan Carlos Morales,A. Sanchez-Lopez,Walter Seifert,M. R. Zapatero Osorio,Mathias Zechmeister +37 more
TL;DR: In this article, the authors present three transit observations of HD 189733 b obtained with the high-resolution spectrograph CARMENES at Calar Alto, and show that stellar activity related pseudo-signals interfere with the planetary atmospheric absorption signal.
Journal ArticleDOI
Gravitational slopes, geomorphology, and material strengths of the nucleus of comet 67P/Churyumov-Gerasimenko from OSIRIS observations
Olivier Groussin,Laurent Jorda,A.-T. Auger,Ekkehard Kührt,Robert Gaskell,Claire Capanna,F. Scholten,F. Preusker,P. L. Lamy,Stubbe F. Hviid,Jörg Knollenberg,Ursula Keller,C. Lopez Moreno,Simone Marchi,Francesco Marzari,Matteo Massironi,Harald Michalik,Giampiero Naletto,Nilda Oklay,Antoine Pommerol,Maurizio Pajola,Nicolas Thomas,Imre Toth,Cecilia Tubiana,Jean-Baptiste Vincent +52 more
TL;DR: In this paper, the tensile, shear, and compressive strengths of the cometary material were estimated using different surface morphologies (overhangs, collapsed structures, boulders, cliffs, and Philae's footprint) and mechani- cal considerations.

M. Lara,Karan Molaverdikhani,D. Montes,Juan Carlos Morales,A. Sánchez-López,Walter Seifert,M. R. Zapatero Osorio,Mathias Zechmeister +44 more
TL;DR: In this paper, the authors present three transit observations of HD 189733 b obtained with the high-resolution spectrograph CARMENES at Calar Alto and show that stellar activity related pseudo-signals interfere with the planetary atmospheric absorption signal.
Journal ArticleDOI
A large dust/ice ratio in the nucleus of comet 9P/Tempel 1
Michael Küppers,Ivano Bertini,Sonia Fornasier,Pedro J. Gutiérrez,Stubbe F. Hviid,Laurent Jorda,H. U. Keller,Jörg Knollenberg,Detlef Koschny,R. Kramm,L. M. Lara,Holger Sierks,Nicolas Thomas,Cesare Barbieri,Philippe Lamy,Hans Rickman,Rafael Rodrigo +16 more
TL;DR: The Deep Impact mission shot a projectile into comet 9P/Tempel 1 in order to investigate its interior and reported the water vapour content and the cross-section of the dust created by the impact, suggesting that comets are ‘icy dirtball’ rather than ‘dirty snowballs’ as commonly believed.
Journal ArticleDOI
Size-frequency distribution of boulders ≥7 m on comet 67P/Churyumov-Gerasimenko
Maurizio Pajola,Jean-Bapiste Vincent,Carsten Güttler,J.-C. Lee,Ivano Bertini,Matteo Massironi,Emanuele Simioni,Francesco Marzari,Lorenza Giacomini,Alice Lucchetti,Cesare Barbieri,Gabriele Cremonese,Giampiero Naletto,Antoine Pommerol,Mohamed Ramy El-Maarry,Sebastien Besse,Michael Küppers,Fiorangela La Forgia,Monica Lazzarin,N. Lara,Zhong-Yi Lin,José Juan López-Moreno,Sara Magrin,Simone Marchi,Harald Michalik,Richard Moissl,Stefano Mottola,Nilda Oklay,Frank Preusker,Frank Scholten,Cecilia Tubiana +58 more
TL;DR: In this article, the size-frequency distribution of boulders on a comet, 67P/Churyumov-Gerasimenko (67P), was derived from the images taken by the Rosetta/OSIRIS imaging system.
