Photonic crystal sensors: An overview

TL;DR: In this article, a variety of sensing devices based on photonic crystals have been discussed along with the physical parameters of the photonic crystal that enable them, which is important to consider the costeffectiveness of the product and the reliability of measurements over other existing techniques.
Journal ArticleDOI

Three-dimensionally ordered photonic crystal heterostructures with a double photonic stop band

Rajesh V. Nair, +1 more
- 10 Sep 2007 -
TL;DR: In this paper, the double photonic stop band of the heterostructures exactly matches the stop bands of the individual photonic crystals, and the reflection/transmission spectra measured from the (111) plane of the photonic crystal heterostructure clearly demonstrate the signature of the double photon stop band.
Journal ArticleDOI

Observation of higher-order diffraction features in self-assembled photonic crystals

TL;DR: In this article, the optical response of high quality 3D ordered photonic crystals is analyzed in the high energy region by tuning the reflectance with the angle of incidence of light, the peaks in the reflection spectrum that correspond to the first, second, and third order photonic stop bands and the van Hove singular point in the photon density of states are clearly distinguished.
Journal ArticleDOI

Structural and optical characterization of photonic crystals synthesized using the inward growing self-assembling method

TL;DR: In this article, a systematic analysis of 3D ordered photonic crystals fabricated using the recently reported inward growing self-assembling method is presented, which reveals extremely high quality features in these crystals, including the high reflectance values in the first order stop band and the high energy optical response observed in all the samples, irrespective of the diameter of the spheres.
Journal ArticleDOI

Emission studies on photonic crystals fabricated using dyed polystyrene colloids

TL;DR: In this paper, three dimensionally ordered photonic crystals are fabricated with rhodamine B dyed polystyrene colloidal spheres using the inward growing self-assembling method in less than 3 hours.
