Journal ArticleDOI

Quantitative observation of misfit dislocation arrays in low and high angle twist grain boundaries

TL;DR: In this article, the fine structure of (001) twist boundaries in gold was systematically studied by transmission electron microscopy, and about 200 such boundaries were prepared under controlled conditions by welding single crystal films together face-to-face at various twist angles.
Journal ArticleDOI

Special aspects of diffusion in thin films

TL;DR: In this article, the authors identify and describe a number of factors which may cause diffusion in thin films to differ from the ordinary diffusion which occurs in bulk specimens at elevated temperatures, and discuss these factors in turn, with reference to experiment wherever possible.
Journal ArticleDOI

Annealing Kinetics of Voids and the Self-Diffusion Coefficient in Aluminum

TL;DR: In this paper, the use of the technical facilities of the Materials Science Center at Cornell University has been used for the development of a new method for the construction of a nuclear power plant.
Journal ArticleDOI

Dislocation sub-boundary arrays in oriented thin-film bicrystals of gold

TL;DR: In this article, a technique for producing planar dislocation sub-boundaries in thin-film bierystal specimens of gold under controlled conditions is described, where single crystal thin films of the desired orientations are first grown epitaxially on appropriate substrates from the vapour phase.
