Genome of Rhodnius prolixus, an insect vector of Chagas disease, reveals unique adaptations to hematophagy and parasite infection

Rafael D. Mesquita, +131 more
TL;DR: The first genome sequence of a nondipteran insect vector of an important human parasitic disease is described, which provides critical information on the physiology and evolution of this important vector species and should be instrumental for the development of innovative disease control methods.
Journal ArticleDOI

Ovarian dual oxidase (Duox) activity is essential for insect eggshell hardening and waterproofing

TL;DR: Working with Rhodnius prolixus, the insect vector of Chagas disease, it is shown that an ovary dual oxidase (Duox), a NADPH oxidase, is the source of the H2O2 that supports dityrosine-mediated protein cross-linking and eggshell hardening.
Journal ArticleDOI

Praxis-Induced Myoclonic Seizures are Significantly Associated with Different Self-Perception Trigger Factors

TL;DR: A strong correlation is found between self-perception of trigger factors and actual trigger factors for seizures in adolescents with JME with praxis-induced seizures.
