Detection of Cosmic Magnification with the Sloan Digital Sky Survey
Ryan Scranton,Brice Ménard,Gordon T. Richards,Robert C. Nichol,Adam D. Myers,Bhuvnesh Jain,Alex Gray,Matthias Bartelmann,Robert J. Brunner,Andrew J. Connolly,James E. Gunn,Ravi K. Sheth,Neta A. Bahcall,John Brinkman,Jon Loveday,Donald P. Schneider,Aniruddha R. Thakar,Donald G. York +17 more
TL;DR: In this paper, an 8 sigma detection of cosmic magnification measured by the variation of quasar density due to gravitational lensing by foreground large scale structure is presented, which is in good agreement with theoretical predictions based on the WMAP concordance cosmology.
Journal ArticleDOI
Modeling Nearly Spherical Pure-bulge Galaxies with a Stellar Mass-to-light Ratio Gradient under the ΛCDM and MOND Paradigms. I. Methodology, Dynamical Stellar Mass, and Fundamental Mass Plane
TL;DR: In this article, a generalized Osipkov-Merritt model for the velocity dispersion (VD) anisotropy was used to model the stellar mass to light ratio (M/L) of pure-bulge galaxies.
Journal ArticleDOI
Unbiased estimates of galaxy scaling relations from photometric redshift surveys
Graziano Rossi,Ravi K. Sheth +1 more
TL;DR: In this article, a generalization of the V max method and a maximum-likelihood approach are proposed to remove the bias in the distance-dependent correlation analysis of galaxy formation models.
Journal ArticleDOI
Competition between direct and concerted movements in surface diffusion with application to the Au(110) surface
TL;DR: In this paper, a simulation technique based on model potentials that reproduce the relevant energtic and entropic features of the Au(110) situation was proposed and tested for the concerted motions.

Spherical Collapse and Modified Gravity
TL;DR: In this paper, the evolution of spherically symmetric perturbations when the modification is of Yukawa type is studied, and the abundance of virialized objects in such models is estimated.
