TL;DR: To describe the structure of HIV-related discussions, characterize effective and efficient communication, and identify common difficulties, an exploratory study by analyzing videotapes of patientphysician encounters in community-based settings is conducted.

TL;DR: The authors empirically evaluate the ability of accounting-based valuation theory to explain the book-to-market (B/P) effect and find that empirical proxies of V dominate B in cross-sectional correlations with price.
Abstract: Accounting-based valuation theory suggests that a firm's value (V) is a combination of its book value (B) and market expectations of future earnings. We empirically evaluate the ability of this model to explain the book-to-market (B/P) effect. We find that our empirical proxies of V dominate B in cross-sectional correlations with price, and that the resulting V/P ratios also predict cross-sectional returns. In addition, we find that errors in analyst consensus forecasts are predictable, and that returns from trading on these predictable errors account for much of the B/P effect.

TL;DR: An educational module was developed for graduate medical residents about the care of dying patients to improve their communication skills, particularly in the area of end of life discussions with patients.
Abstract: Discussions about end of life care can be difficult for patients and practitioners. Numerous studies have demonstrated that dying patients often receive care that does not address their suffering adequately, partly due to inadequate physician-patient communication. An educational module was developed for graduate medical residents about the care of dying patients to improve their communication skills, particularly in the area of end of life discussions with patients. The module contains, didactic material as well as exercises to provide the teacher and learners with a framework to explore personal and patient values, and how those values relate to medical decision making. Portions of. the module have also been utilized at seminars for social workers and nurses.

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors examine the effect of moral hazard and adverse selection on the structure of the consideration offered in an acquisition and find that when targets have greater private information, consideration is more likely to be based on the future performance of the target.
Abstract: We examine the effects of moral hazard and adverse selection on the structure of the consideration offered in an acquisition. Specifically, we investigate factors affecting the occurrence of earnouts, finding that when targets have greater private information, consideration is more likely to be based on the future performance of the target. We find an earnout is more likely to be used in an acquisition if the target is a smaller, private company in a different industry and country than the acquirer. Earnouts are also more likely to be used when fewer acquisitions take place within an industry.
