Journal ArticleDOI
Enhancement of salivary esophagoprotection: Rationale for a physiological approach to gastroesophageal reflux disease
TL;DR: A profound and significant increase in the secretion rate of inorganic and organic protective components in saliva during masticatory stimulation suggests its potential value as a therapeutic approach to the treatment of patients with gastroesophageal reflux disease.
Journal ArticleDOI
Response of the electric activity in the human stomach to water and a solid meal.
J. Chen,Richard W. McCallum +1 more
TL;DR: Responses of the gastric electric activity to water and a solid meal was investigated using surface electrodes and it appears that the postprandial EGG amplitude increases because of a combination of stomach contractions and gastric distension bringing the stomach closer to the recording electrodes.
Journal ArticleDOI
Randomised clinical trial: ghrelin agonist TZP-101 relieves gastroparesis associated with severe nausea and vomiting--randomised clinical study subset data.
John M. Wo,Niels Ejskjaer,Per M. Hellström,Rayaz A. Malik,J. C. Pezzullo,L. Shaughnessy,Philippa A. Charlton,G. Kosutic,Richard W. McCallum +8 more

Journal ArticleDOI
Effect of the diaphragmatic contraction on lower oesophageal sphincter pressure in man.
TL;DR: It is suggested that diaphragmatic contraction in man enhances the LOS pressure and this augmentation of sphincter tone may be a vital component of the antireflux mechanism.
Journal ArticleDOI
Misoprostol in the treatment of chronic refractory constipation: results of a long-term open label trial.
TL;DR: The utility of misoprostol in the long‐term management of patients with chronic refractory constipation was determined.
