Journal ArticleDOI
Disparate effects of constant and annually-cycling daylength and water temperature on reproductive maturation of striped bass (Morone saxatilis)
TL;DR: The annual cycle of water temperature clearly plays a prominent role in the initiation, maintenance, and termination of the striped bass reproductive cycle and in females, a decrease in water temperature below values experienced at spawning appears to be required for vitellogenesis and oocyte growth to proceed normally.
Journal ArticleDOI
Induced maturation and spawning: opportunities and applications for research on oogenesis
Craig V. Sullivan,Naoshi Hiramatsu,Alanna M. Kennedy,Robert W. Clark,Gregory M. Weber,Takahiro Matsubara,Akihiko Hara +6 more
TL;DR: Investigation of temperate basses research has revealed that accumulation of neutral lipid droplets and deposition of vitellogenin-derived yolk proteins in growing oocytes are independent processes with different sensitivities to changing day length and water temperature.
Journal ArticleDOI
Morpho-physiological predictors of ovulatory success in captive striped bass (Morone saxatilis)
TL;DR: This study evaluates morpho-physiological characters as predictors of ovulatory success in cultured striped bass, Morone saxatilis, that could be used by farmers to select females for induced spawning.
Journal ArticleDOI
The status of striped bass, Morone saxatilis, as a commercially ready species for U.S. marine aquaculture

Journal ArticleDOI
Volitional tank spawning of domestic striped bass (Morone saxatilis) using human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG) and gonadotropin releasing hormone analogue (GnRHa)- induced ‘pace-setting’ females
L.K. Andersen,Robert W. Clark,A.S. McGinty,M.S. Hopper,Linas W. Kenter,Scott A. Salger,Justin Schilling,Ronald G. Hodson,Adrienne I. Kovach,David L. Berlinsky,Benjamin J. Reading +10 more
TL;DR: The results of these trials show for the first time that a hormone-induced female striped bass can be used to stimulate successful volitional spawning of an untreated female in the same tank with fry/kg female body weight production similar to that of hormone-treated fish.
