Journal ArticleDOI
Isoprene oxidation by nitrate radical: alkyl nitrate and secondary organic aerosol yields
A. W. Rollins,Astrid Kiendler-Scharr,Juliane L. Fry,Juliane L. Fry,Theo Brauers,Steven S. Brown,H.-P. Dorn,William P. Dubé,Hendrik Fuchs,A. Mensah,Thomas F. Mentel,Franz Rohrer,Ralf Tillmann,Robert Wegener,Paul J. Wooldridge,Ronald C. Cohen +15 more
TL;DR: In this article, a 16-hour dark experiment was conducted with temperatures at 289-301 K, and maximum concentrations of 11 ppb isoprene, 62.4 ppb O3 and 31.1 ppb NOx.
Journal ArticleDOI
Missing gas-phase source of HONO inferred from Zeppelin measurements in the troposphere.
Xin Li,Franz Rohrer,Andreas Hofzumahaus,Theo Brauers,Rolf Häseler,Birger Bohn,Sebastian Broch,Hendrik Fuchs,Sebastian Gomm,Frank Holland,Julia Jäger,J. Kaiser,Frank N. Keutsch,Insa Lohse,Keding Lu,Ralf Tillmann,Robert Wegener,Glenn M. Wolfe,Thomas F. Mentel,Astrid Kiendler-Scharr,Andreas Wahner +20 more
TL;DR: In a sunlit layer separated from Earth’s surface processes by temperature inversion, high HONO concentrations are found providing evidence for a strong gas-phase source of HONSO consuming nitrogen oxides and potentially hydrogen oxide radicals.
Journal ArticleDOI
Photochemical production of aerosols from real plant emissions
Th. F. Mentel,J. Wildt,Astrid Kiendler-Scharr,Einhard Kleist,Ralf Tillmann,M. Dal Maso,R. Fisseha,T. Hohaus,H. Spahn,R. Uerlings,Robert Wegener,Paul T. Griffiths,E. Dinar,Yinon Rudich,Andreas Wahner +14 more
TL;DR: In this paper, a plant chamber coupled with a reaction chamber for oxidizing the plant emissions and for forming secondary organic aerosols (SOA) was investigated in a new setup.
Journal ArticleDOI
Experimental evidence for efficient hydroxyl radical regeneration in isoprene oxidation
Hendrik Fuchs,Andreas Hofzumahaus,Franz Rohrer,Birger Bohn,Theo Brauers,H.-P. Dorn,Rolf Häseler,Frank Holland,Martin Kaminski,Xin Li,Keding Lu,Keding Lu,Sascha Nehr,Ralf Tillmann,Robert Wegener,Andreas Wahner +15 more
TL;DR: Field measurements have revealed much higher concentrations of hydroxyl radicals than expected in regions with high loads of the biogenic volatile organic compound isoprene, suggesting that the additional recycling of radicals in the presence ofIsoprene contributes to hydroxym radical enhancement in these regions.
Journal ArticleDOI
HOx budgets during HOxComp: A case study of HOx chemistry under NOx-limited conditions
Yasin Elshorbany,Yasin Elshorbany,Jörg Kleffmann,Andreas Hofzumahaus,Ralf Kurtenbach,Peter Wiesen,T. Brauers,Birger Bohn,Hans-Peter Dorn,Hendrik Fuchs,Frank Holland,Franz Rohrer,Ralf Tillmann,Robert Wegener,Andreas Wahner,Yugo Kanaya,Ayako Yoshino,Ayako Yoshino,S. Nishida,S. Nishida,Yoshizumi Kajii,Micaela E. Martinez,Dagmar Kubistin,Hartwig Harder,Jos Lelieveld,T. Elste,Christian Plass-Dülmer,G. Stange,Harald Berresheim,Harald Berresheim,Ulrich Schurath +30 more
TL;DR: In this paper, a detailed analysis of the HOx radical budgets under low-NOx, rural conditions was performed employing a box model based on the Master Chemical Mechanism (MCMv3.2).
