Insulin resistance in essential hypertension
Eleuterio Ferrannini,G. Buzzigoli,Riccardo C. Bonadonna,Maria Antonietta Giorico,M. Oleggini,L. Graziadei,Roberto Pedrinelli,L. S. Brandi,Stefano Bevilacqua +8 more
TL;DR: Results provide preliminary evidence that essential hypertension is an insulin-resistant state and insulin resistance involves glucose but not lipid or potassium metabolism, is located in peripheral tissues but not the liver, is limited to nonoxidative pathways of intracellular glucose disposal, and is directly correlated with the severity of hypertension.
Journal ArticleDOI
Reduction of hospitalizations for myocardial infarction in Italy in the COVID-19 era.
Salvatore De Rosa,Carmen Spaccarotella,Cristina Basso,Maria Pia Calabrò,Antonio Curcio,Pasquale Perrone Filardi,Massimo Mancone,Giuseppe Mercuro,Saverio Muscoli,Savina Nodari,Roberto Pedrinelli,Gianfranco Sinagra,Ciro Indolfi +12 more
TL;DR: Admissions for AMI were significantly reduced during the COVID-19 pandemic across Italy, with a parallel increase in fatality and complication rates.
Journal ArticleDOI
Microalbuminuria and endothelial dysfunction in essential hypertension
Roberto Pedrinelli,Giulia Dell'Omo,G Catapano,Ottavio Giampietro,Franco Carmassi,Elena Matteucci,L Talarico,M. Morale,F. De Negri,V. Di Bello,E Melillo +10 more
TL;DR: In this paper, the status of endothelial function was inferred from circulating von Willebrand Factor antigen (vWF), a glycoprotein secreted in greater amounts when the vascular endothelium is damaged.
Journal ArticleDOI
Nutraceuticals and dyslipidaemia: Beyond the common therapeutics
Pietro Scicchitano,Matteo Cameli,Maria Maiello,Pietro Amedeo Modesti,Maria Lorenza Muiesan,Salvatore Novo,Pasquale Palmiero,Pier Sergio Saba,Roberto Pedrinelli,Marco Matteo Ciccone +9 more
TL;DR: This contribution provides an overview of the mechanism of action of nutraceuticals and functional food ingredients on lipids and their role in the management of lipid disorders.
Journal ArticleDOI
Soluble Vascular Cell Adhesion Molecule-1 as a Biohumoral Correlate of Atherosclerosis
R. De Caterina,Giuseppina Basta,G Lazzerini,Giulia Dell'Omo,Roberto Petrucci,M. Morale,Franco Carmassi,Roberto Pedrinelli +7 more
TL;DR: In this paper, the authors found that sVCAM-1 is a good bio-humoral correlate of overt atherosclerosis, independent of underlying hypertension, and may be an in vivo marker of endothelial activation.
